A legend from New York’s infamous Queensbridge housing projects, Blaq Poet first gained notoriety back in 1987 during the Bridge wars when he attacked KRS-One on the song Beat You Down. This was the first of a career riddled with taking shots at made rappers including T La Rock, Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel, LL Cool J, Rakim and the Ultramagnetic MC’s the following year on All Hell’s Breaking Loose. That track cemented Blaq Poet’s legacy as hip-hop’s villain long before 50 Cent went at industry greats on How To Rob. Blaq Po speaks on who he would aim at with a diss track in 2009 along with what it was like recording at Marley Marls’ original house of hits on 12th Street in Queensbridge. Brooklyn’s own Bekay sits down with UGHH’s Van Stylez for an in-depth interview that covers everything from Bekay’s upcoming album Hunger Pains, to his thoughts of the game post 2000, to his not so flattering opinion of Asher Roth. Hungers Pains is slated for an October 13th release date with the first single I Am, produced by The Alchemist to be dropping later this summer. The album’s second single Brooklyn Bridge feat. Masta Ace (prod. by DJ Babu) will be dropping shortly thereafter- a video for both tracks are in progress.

In this segment of the UndergroundHipHop.com / Coalmine Records Foundation Series we gain insight into the crossover between hip-hop and Hollywood. A decorated rap battle Champion, Craig G was inducted into the Shady / Aftermath fold to pen lyrics for emcees battling Eminem in the movie 8 Mile. Craig G talks about befriending since deceased legendary D-12 rapper Proof on the 8 Mile set along with how his ghostwriting parlayed into a job composing lyrics for 50 Cent in his semi-autobiographical film, Get Rich Or Die Tryin.

In part 2 of the Foundation Series focusing on legendary Juice Crew member Craig G, the icon lashes out at everybody tryin to rap, pleading for a resurgences of fans in the oversaturated hip-hop industry. He also reveals an unexpected choice for his top album of the year before revealing the change he is making in his artistic direction for future projects.

But a young spring chicken back in 1998, UGHH’s CEO Quest tests the high waters of big things to come as he ventures into the bowels of the since extinct Club Hibernia in the heart of downtown Boston to garner attention for an UndergroundHipHop.com website he was just beginning to develop at the time. Using his 8mm camera, the valiant young entrepreneur captures Eminem 10 years ago in the first video interview ever conducted with the then blossoming vanilla boy wonder. Tagged on to the end of this twelve minute time-capsule, a highly intoxicated Royce Da 5′9″ accompanies Eminem in the basement of Boston’s infamous Middle East nightclub to discuss the origins of Bad Meets Evil, their collaboration for the then newly released Slim Shady LP. Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg reminds Eminem of having met Quest / UGHH before the Slim Shady LP release in another section of the city, to which Eminem (whose ego has exponentially expanded) exclaims, “Before we were dicks. Now we’re BIG DICKS!”

I have to say, I’m still really disappointed to this day that we never got a full out Bad Meets Evil project. And ever if there was a chance we got one now I’d still be disappointed; as it wouldn’t be the same.

For those of you that peeped last week’s 4th installment of Foundation Fridays, you may have noticed Craig G making a very blatant dis to Necro while freestyling during his performance at The Foundation Album Release Party. Well, you know we couldn’t let that fall by the wayside without investigating what motivated the Juice Crew legend to go at Mr. Psycho + Logical himself.
