The homie JKim is working with Mochilla to spread the news about this Suite for Ma Dukes EP that was put together by Carlos Nino and Miguel Atwood Ferguson. A four song orchestral EP of music originally produced by the late great James Yancey. This post comes in a different fashion as what you are normally used to though. There is no download link! Life isn’t over though… you can stream a song over at the plantation and you can support Ma Dukes and purchase the EP on iTunes now. One the 22nd, Nino & Ferguson will perform to music alongside a 36-piece Orchestra as part of Timeless: The Composer Arranger Series at the Luckman FineArts Complex. Being back on the West Coast I wanted to wait until it was actually midnight to post this. Today marks the three year anniversary of the passing of one of hip hops most talented producers, James Dewitt Yancey aka J Dilla. In the clip above Elzhi, Black Milk, Guilty Simpson & Buff1talk to Hip Hop Official about what Dilla meant to their city and hip hop as a whole. I’m gonna look through my hard drives and see if I can dig up some stuff to post today as well.

I’ve been meaning to post this ever since it appeared on Fresh Selects this weekend. A dope remix to PPP & Dilla’s already classic cut, Shotgun. Now featuring a new beat from Waajeed and a previously unreleased verse from Jay Dee! Straight off Triple P’s upcoming Abundance Mixtape, which will feature ‘jeed remixing a bunch of PPP material as well as some brand new cuts from the new members. Look out for the Abundance album hitting shelves in January!

Another reason I wanted to post this was to give awareness to Ma Dukes’ (Dilla’s mother) troubles. In light of her illness (Lupus, the same disease that took her son), growing financial troubles and recent estrangement with the executors of her son’s estate; The Giant Peach has set up a way to donate. Hit up their MySpace and get to it. And for those that expect something in return of a donation, you can purchase the new Solillaquists of Sound single with all proceeds heading to Ms. Yancey!

Apparently this was the last joint Dilla Dog hopped on before he passed away. I don’t know how legit that information is, however I haven’t heard this record personally. So whatever the case may be, this is still new to me. Maybe you as well. Shouts to Dukes.

So we finally added the third feature that Aliya Ewing did on Dilla over at the plantation. This time around she got family and friends closest to Jay Dee to speak about their favorite memories and tell their favorite stories. From Illa J (Dilla’s younger brother), Talib Kweli, Phat Kat, Mr. Porter (of D-12) and many more; this is something no Dilla fan should ignore. And with this post I will be leaving the internets for a few hours (Lakers, Pro Bowl, Grammy’s) but I feel that myself and Meka have left you with plenty of Dilla to pay homage. Rest In Peace James Yancey!
