In an effort to let his fans know his musical path and see his growth as an artist, Trey released a mixtape/demo that features music he recorded before his debut album.

Genesis – the beginning of it all. I was a kid with big dreams. At the age of 15, I met Troy Taylor, My Producer, Mentor and founder of Songbook Ent. He lived in Jersey while I was a high school student living in Virginia. We kept contact throughout the school year & I’d come to Jersey for whatever school breaks we had AND the summers to hone what had now become my craft. While I loved music, like anybody does, making music was new to me. You will hear the Immaturity and youth in my voice, you’ll hear me learning how to record. This is Trey Songz PRE – Gotta Make It. Most of the songs you will hear were recorded in a basement in Teaneck, New Jersey. I slept on a fouton, I woke up to loud music and was made to think of melodies and concepts before I washed my face or brushed my teeth. I could make 10 bucks stretch for 2 weeks because I’d rather not burden my mother. I drove a 88 Honda Accord that had 2 different color doors with no radio back and forth from VA (or Baltimore) to Jersey. This is only one chapter of my story, you’ll learn more as we grow together. I want my fans to know my musical path, know the work I put in and see my growth. Know that ANYTHING is possible. If u believe in YOU like no one else could ever have a work ethic to match and u cannot be stopped. With that being said…I give you GENESIS.

Today started off pretty meh, but it’s shaping up nicely. At the moment I’m currently running through P.O.S. upcoming album, Never Better. And this came into my hands after I got these demo tracks from smokeyyy. Blur frontman Damon Albarn (aka 2D of Gorillaz) was appeared as a guest DJ on BBC’s Radio 1 yesterday. Not one to come empty handed, Albarn blessed the radio waves with three demo versions of tracks from the upcoming Gorillaz LP. This March the band group will be travelling to Syria to finish the album. Very dope.

Looking through the archives of 2DBz I’m sad to admit I’ve only mentioned Cage in a handful of posts. Hopefully that will change with the release of his upcoming album on it’s way (according to El-P). Anyways… I noticed Grand Good put up a demo track, that was recorded over a decade ago, that I don’t remember hearing at all! And since I’m sure a good selection of you haven’t even heard of Cage outside the lines Eminem has thrown in the past*, and this demo isn’t exactly a “become a fan” record; I’ve included some of my favorite tracks off each of his albums, and an Eastern Conference All Stars compilation…
