With Hov & Jeezy opening up the show with a performance of As Real As It Gets the BET Awards were taped last night in Atlanta. The show isn’t airing until October 27th but the winners were announced, etc.

Jay later took home the MVP of the Year award, beating out such popular peers as Lil Wayne and Drake. Hov dedicated his win to Mr. Magic, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. “Brooklyn, we did it again,” he said at the conclusion of his brief speech.

Other big winners announced during the show last night were Drake for Rookie of the Year and DJ AM for DJ of the Year.

Ice Cube was honored with the I Am Hip-Hop award, with an introductory video that included a voice-over from Dr. Dre. “From that first rhyme he spit for me, I knew Cube was a star,” Dre said. The award was presented to the former N.W.A member by Young Jeezy and Cube’s favorite MC, Chuck D.

For a more in depth breakdown of the show, hit up MTV. And to be honest, I don’t care who won what. All I wanna see/hear are the Cyphers that went down. DJ Premier on the 1s and 2s with KRS-One & Wale rocking the first cypher; Joe Budden & Nicki Minaj rocking the 2nd; and the most anticipated w/ Eminem, Black Thought & Mos Def.

Premo was talking about it while we were at the Royce Da 5′9″ listening session (Street Hop is fucking dope btw). Anyways, John Public caught up with DJ Premier after we heard the album and got some more info…

DJ Premier was in the house at the listening session for Royce Da 5′9’s new album. I got Preme talking all the details about the album for you tomorrow at kevinnottingham.com, but wanted to run this one today. Premier spilled the details of who is going to be a part of the upcoming BET Awards* Cipher and it doesn’t disappoint. They got some ill collabs of both new and established artists. Where’s the footage?!

As much shit I talk about one of my benefactors, every once in a while they come up with some worthwhile stuff. Bojangles Entertainment Television’s website recently dropped this list of 13 mixtapes and indie rap albums every music fan should have in their collection. Peep numbers 5, 6 and 11 also. And since I’m not as good on the PhotoShop game as my partner, I decided to “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” it and toss the lovely Ms. Ford up there. Anybody that can actually get how me & her are somehow intertwined each other (no, seriously) and I’ll send them a pair of kicks. Not really…

A few weeks back, my good friend Dre and some other dude LowKey took a trip to the One Show Awards (which is basically the Oscars of the advertising agency) Yea… I don’t know why either. Anyways, they sit down with Ludacris to talk about his beginning in radio, upcoming movie projects, his involvement with The One Awards, his upcoming project with Shawnna and his upcoming album, Cineplex.

So Rik Cordero is up for the BET Award for Video Director of the Year. And with the help of the dopeboyz/girlz, maybe we can give him a boost. I’d like to think my vote (I was part of the voting academy this year) helped a bit to get him on the nominations list. And I could go on and on about why he should take it all, but nation did a great job in doing that so I’ll just quote him (I’m lazy today).

Granted, he knows BET isn’t exactly his playground but imagine if he were to win this, what kind of message that would be sending out. Despite that it’s a poll of who the public thinks should win, it might have more of an effect on the final winner than you think. Rik really got his start on these here internets and he’s embraced this culture for everything it could be. I don’t doubt any one of those nominees’ talent, but for what it’s worth – Rik loves this shit as much as any of us do and has put out quality content online for years now. If anyone should win the people’s vote, it should be undoubtedly be Rik Cordero.
