Last night, I came home to this lovely surprise. Slug & Ant released another free EP for their fans! And I would’ve posted then and there but Rhymesayers’ site was in overload and it was going in and out. So here you go, 7 brand new tracks from one of my favorite groups in hip hop.

Last night I had a blast at Paid Dues. Met a lot of artists (these three included) and some pretty great footage (which I’ll be uploading soon enough). Atmosphere & Brother Ali Live in Sweden (06.13.08)

In the above clip, Slug talks about how him and ANT have switched up their live show throughout the years. He also goes in about the formation of Felt (his collab effort with Murs, for the slow folk) and the possibility of a third album. Honestly, if you haven’t seen Atmosphere perform live you’re missing out. Slug is honestly incredible on stage. I’ve seen him take control over thousands upon thousands of people and just throw them in a trance for their entire set. It’s pretty crazy. I haven’t been able to fully experience Atmos perform When Life Gives You Lemons, so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for Paid Dues 2009. March 28th!

As if the Jo & Eligh release wasn’t enough today. Brother Ali released his The Truth Is Here EP. I’ve been giving it constant spins the past 2 weeks and I don’t see me stopping anytime soon. I dropped a trailer for the accompanying DVD yesterday and wanted to hold off on posting any tracks. But I honestly believe if I let ya’ll atleast hear the intro joint, it might entice some of youse to hit up FifthElement* and purchase a copy. I can’t stress it enough, Brother Ali is one of the dopest emcees on the planet. Period. Two incredible EPs and two classic albums. Yes… I said classic and stand behind that! Oh and I can’t make the post with out congratulating the man on the baby daughter!

After countless posts of live performances of this record, I finally get to put up the official video for Atmosphere’s single off When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. If you don’t have this album (or any other one of their albums) you need to hit yourself with a spiked bat (or something to that effect).

Here goes the second installment of Shake Diaries before I pass out and forgot shit. First off I wanna send a shout out to Jake and RSE for hooking up a kid with the tickets shown above (now bearing ANT’s sharpie skills). Myself and the misses arrive around 7:30 to find out the show started at 5 (all ages shows will do that to you). So unfortunately we missed out on Abstract Rude & Blueprint. We came in during intermission and the venue was PACKED. I’m telling you, there we’re easily more heads here than the N.E.R.D. x Common show I hit up like 5 days ago. Wanna know more? Hit the jump…

Since we arrived later than we should have and Atmos has an insane following we we’re forced to get a side view instead of the right smack in the front/middle norm. So the show starts with Atmos performing ____ (see I’m already forgetting). I do know they proceeded to run through a slew of records from their extensive discography. From Lemons‘ (You, Yesterday, The Waitress, etc), YCIHMFWH (Pour Me Another, Little Man, etc), GodLovesUgly (GodLovesUgly, Lovelife, Shrapnel, etc), Lucy Ford (Like Today, Don’t Ever Fuckin’ Question That, Woman w/ the Tattooed Hands, etc) and even rocked some Sad Clown (The Rooster, Not Another Day, etc). I didn’t get any footage as I left my Flip Mino in my man’s truck after a night at Red Martini earlier this week; which led to a Twitter update that looked like following…

The set finishes and they leave only to come out for an encore performance (like usual) and go through some of my personal favorite Atmos records (Trying to Find a Balance, Always Coming Back Home to You, Sunshine, etc). And trust me when I say this… I haven’t seen a crowd react like they did when Trying to Find a Balance came on. It was ridiculous! I’m talking he had EVERY one in the entire building waving their hands from front to back. And for good reason, the song is nasty! Right before the show is over some dueshe back (sitting right in front of us mind you) throws a cup in the crowd. And in typical Sluggo fashion, he stops the music and calls dude out. Oh so you’re the cool guy who throws shit? Does it feel good? Which had the kid getting all hyper and saying yeaaaa while throwing another cup. Smh. Security comes and yanks him and another kid that was next to him and proceed to drag them out. Slug makes sure it was only the “striped shirt” that got taken out and the other should stay. I’m personally thankful as it enticed Slug to bring out Abstract Rude & Blueprint for a dope little freestyle session. Great show!

Tired of reading yet? I’ve got more. While we’re chilling, waiting for the crowd to move we run into Blueprint. He recognizes my lady (as they have some running ass-grabbing joke or something) and he tells us to come by the merch table upstairs for some chit chat, etc. While we’re waiting for the buying fans to dissapear Shake got a flick with ANT…

Blueprint finishes up and we just stand around chopping it up while girls with no wristbands (aka underage) and MySpace stalkers approach him constantly. Finally they leave and we decide to hit up Burger Bar for some greaaaat food (good call Narada!). And there you have it… a dope Atmosphere show, a great convo with ‘Print over some Black Angus burgers and Coronas then a nice drive home… Until next time.

Everyone that frequents 2dbz knows that I’m a huge Atmosphere fan. Sluggo is one of my favorite emcee (interchanges with Hov on occasion) of all time. With that said, here goes their recent performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Performing the chorus to You which then tranfsorms into Yesterday from their album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. Also, whoodini69 was at the taping and managed to get some footage of them performing GodLovesUgly which I included after the jump. You should be getting performance footage from the Shake soon as I’ll be seeing them this weekend at the House of Blues. Oh man. Today is the awesome’ness. I hop on the PC and what do I see in my inbox? Atmosphere’s new album! I have to say I wanted to wait until my hard copy arrives to listen but … I can’t. 10 tracks in and it’s nothing short of amazing. I hope my constant posting on this pushed fans to purchase the album and even put some people onto Slug and ANT.
