Actually, I think this is so much better than the original with Jay.
If you think about it Alicia keys’ version of empire state of mind sounds like a prequel to jay’s empire state of mind.

This version is so dope and soulful. I think when they perform it from now on, Alicia should do part of this first to open up the song and then transition into the original, cuz this is beautifully dope.

I liked the original, but I gotta say this is better. And I don’t know about Rihanna making Run This Town, because dying cat sounds aren’t really my thing, but Alicia definitely made Empire State of Mind, although Jay was nice on that track.
Yeah and if anyone has decent mixing skills they should mix the two together, although that would be kinda long, it still would probably sound tight if done right.

Alicia def made ESOM what it is, but that dont mean Jay didnt come correct…. his verses sorta grew on me and thats probably why i still fuck with it evn with the radio’s fuckery… and idk who could say Rihanna made “Run This Town” with a str8 face..

This is dope as hell, so soulful. I agree with whoever said this should be a prequel and then transition into the Jay verses. That would be amazing, plus I never get sick of hearing Alicia sing she’s just a girl who’s too fine all around.
Oh damn, I just had a thought. What if the homie Nas jumped on this track? Damn, I was waitin for that verse to drop on BP3 but it seems Nas wanted to avoid all questions about that, whatever happened I hope they can work it out. The world needs this, but more importantly I need it lol.

I ain’t hatin on Alicia cuz she would be the only r&b singer I would allow to yell all over my tracks but it has nowhere near the same feel than the original with Jay on it.. Jay made that song what it was with real lyrics and the way he flows with the beat and not over the beat… Then Alicia came in and “added” some spice to it…
Once again…this song wouldnt be as big as it is as a single if Alicia didnt do the hook…be for real, it would be another decent Jay track cause he did good on his verses but for real now…It wouldnt have been a hit single.

alicia MADE the record what it is. jay’s verses = wack. hes dam lucky alicia gave him this hit, she let him perform at the world series. alicia = music. thank god she kept the song for herself, she made into a real song, not a great chorus and some garbage verses.
