And as much as I can respect Wu-Tang, you can’t hold on to the 90s man. I saw someone said that they ran the 90s. They sure did. But it’s 2009 now. I gave the Raekwon album a spin. It wasn’t bad at all. Classic Raekwon…but the fact is, Robbie is sort of right. For the older heads, it might resonate deeper, but for the newer generation of hip hop, it’s not a monumental album. Those artists had their time and they did a lot. You gotta let the genre grow and embrace new artists. Wayne is one of those new generation cats who is running this decade right now, along with the likes of many other dope artists.

Rap as pop is not a bad thing. And saying ’swag’ does not disqualify you from being an emcee. Fabolous put out an unquestionably dope album that follows a lot of the ‘pop’ music styles of modern rap, talks swag shit all the time, and is still a fucking dope emcee (peep I miss my love which could be the best story song of the decade). Rap doesn’t have to look like it did in ‘94 to be ‘true’. Your definition of an emcee is too rigid. Lil Wayne can rap his ass off but sometimes he sucks. But sometimes he’s better than Raekwon. You can like pop rap and ‘94. You can be an emcee doing both as well.

At olugbam Crooked I is one of my favorite rappers Im just using him as an example because people wanna say he’s Hip Hop when a lot of his songs have the same topics as other rappers yet he says he loves Hip Hop so people feel his music is better because of his love for Hip Hop even though it’s still bang bang die die kill kill get money diamonds cash bread big house or the same as say a song from “street” Wayne. Not all of his music but most I love that verse off Rain Drops from the Slaghterhouse LP something with substance.
