Nasir sits down with Don Lemon on CNN to speak on the death of Derrion Albert and defends the fact that violent (rap) lyrics don’t influence violence in society.
*blasts 3rd verse from Eminem’s Sing for the Moment.
Nas is incredible. Other than Biggie, Pac and Jigga, his lyrics reflect what’s happening in the real world, more than imagination. He’s like the Bob Dylan of hip-hop, and that’s the only way I can put it, but that is IF you all know who Bob Dylan is haha. He basically JUST defended all hip-hop lyrics from the evil media in a very logical way.
Yea, like he said violence has been around before hip-hop even came into existence. Hip-Hop is just a reflection of what’s going on out there. Just like any other gangster movies like Scarface, Godfather or whatever.
Yeah saw this earlier.. How fuckin old is Nostradamus? Yet thats the song they pick, reminds me a some bill oreilly type shit… Nas definitely on the GOAT list…
CNN tried to play Nas like a fool. Playing Shoot Em Up right before he comes on and then somehow connecting Nas to Kanye and Common not showing up…rappers can’t win. Listen to the dudes catalog, he’s not the problem.
Also, why the hell don’t these cable news stations connect violent movies to violence? It’s always rap music. Movies have the same shit but barely ever get as much blame as rap.
“A rap song in the 21st century influencing violence is a joke.”
also movies appeal to two senses., sight and hearing… no matter how descriptive someone like a Nas is.. it can never compare to Micheal Myers or Jigsaw ripping someone’s guts open. yet those violent scenes somehow are trumped by a few stories over drum patterns…gtfo.. those movies gross 100’s of millions of dollars whereas a rap album may reach a million ppl or less..
Yeah… OK… I’m a nerdy ass kid, myself attending grad school who grew up in New York City, listened to hip-hop / rock growing up, played violent ass video games, watched my fair share of gangster/horror movies and I was not affected by music, etc the way people make it seem to be. And don’t gimme that exception to the rule bull… The media so quick to point fingers… Blame the parents of the fuckers in those gangs… Why could other kids grow up around violence and always follow the right path, yet their kids can’t? Lazy fuckers…
just to play the devils advocate; KRS been preaching for years about the positive effects on society hip hop can have, We’d be complete hypocrites if we think for a minute it cant also have negative ones. You really believe these Minstrel-Ass rappers(no names) don’t have a negative impact on Morons dumb enough to buy into the shit? Nas is the last artist I’d ever put in that category but even his art can’t really be 360 degrees of self with out some ignorance. We all do dumb shit we’re supposed to make art of it, the problem is the abundance of capitalizing on the ignorance, usually by half ass fans or old rich white dudes who care little about our culture anyway. We Just need balance in the overall Profile of Hip hop that everyone else sees, most of us don’t listen to that shit anyway if we did we wouldn’t be passionate enough to care to comment, just like they never get to hear the “Beautiful Decays” and the “I know I Can”’s…I’m rambling damn..lol…^^^Nas does always look Blown
by the way, the media critiques organizations, associations, people, entertainment, etc, saying that’s what’s bringing the country down. if the country is being destroyed by one thing it would be the MEDIA. they talk about this and that torning the country apart, but yet pinheads like O’Reily, Hannity and Limbaugh with their hateful, sometimes racist, remarks and opinions, are really the ones that are seperating america as we know it. only thing we can do to get any fuckin sense is ignore all their bullshit.
I agree violence was here long before hip-hop. And as for violence within the black community, its roots are deeper than America has yet to admit. Need a hint: read “Three Men” in Bloodline by Earnest Gaines.
and in no way does ANYTHING ever in the entertainment business influence the way a human being on this earth acts. if you look at all the mass-murderers that supposedly were inspired by entertainment, wether music, video games, even books, usually have a mental disability, live in a daily struggle, have problems at home, ended up in a bad relationship, or are bullied at school. Charles Manson said the Beatles talked to him on their records about raging a race war, when really he was just crazy. He already had belonged in a wierd religion that brainwashed him. A religion that promoted racism. The assailants in the Columbine shootings were supposedly inspired by computer games, when there is clear evidence that they were bullied at school and judged on the way they dressed or what they did. now, it is a clear fact that those who choose to rob a business, deal drugs, or belong to a gang either have very hard economic problems or never have had any good influence in their life at home. so they look up to gang bangers or sell crack to feed their family. why criticize and blame music for all this bullshit if music is the only way of expressing feelings? telling visions of the real world? when hearing of all the remarks all the dumb-asses in the media said of MJ and his wierd life, it had me thinking. i was furious. you think Hannity has donated as much as MJ did? what about O’Reilly? Limbaugh? Fox News? the media exists just to criticize people, and in no way promotes any well-being on this earth. they are pointless.
DR CRUZ 88 STFU NAS IS A HYPOCRITE HIS MUSIC DOES PROMOTE GANG VIOLENCE HIS OLD SHIT YES AND EVEN NEW ALL RAP DOES FACE IT I LOVE BUT NIGGAS BE DOING DRIVE BY’S AND BLASTING SHIT SO GET OVER IT AND NAS STOP BLAMING EVERYTHING ON WHITE PPL….IM BLACK AND I KNOW WHEN ITS THE WHITE PPL’S FAULT AND THIS TIME IT AINT…..were killing each other for once the white ppl arent killing us so PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP…..and also….NAS YOUR IRRELEVANT IN THE GAME RIGHT NOW….when was the last time you made a hit record? OR EVEN CAME OUT WITH A DECENT ONE OFFICIALLY OR ON A MIXTAPE
SMH…..AT DUMB NIGGAS LIKE NAS….btw when did you get educated nas?? oh wait thats right you only have a high school degree….so go to college then start acting like a politician…
fuckin idiot… i’m laughin my fuckin head off. for one you look brain-dead by the way you type. second, Nas dropped out of Junior High School and educated himself by reading history, english and cultural books. he’s always stood by that. KRS did the same thing. and they are some of the greatest gifts hip-hop has ever recieved. they are inteligent lyricists. although Nas has many classics under his belt, this has nothing to do with his music. it’s beyond that. this has to do with violence in the world. third, get a hearing aid. he never mentioned “white people” in the interview. nor at the rally last year which was against Fox News where there were people of different races supporting him. this is an issue affecting humans everywhere, all over the world in every country.
Shut up QB you had a point niggas are killing there self’s but what the fuck does that have to do with Nas being irrelevant and not having a Hit records???!!
Nas sounds like he was stuck between a rock and a hard place with that interview. Yea they could’ve chose a different song but think about the premise of the interview ! You can call it a reflection of society but there’s also positives and those positives don’t get the praise from even Hip Hop fans !! Besides Nas “I Can” what was the last song you heard or even listened to from a Mainstream emcee that struck a cord with you ? Of course they have been plenty dropped buy has even 2DopeBoyz pushed those tracks ?
that’s stupid how Nas cares about the kids situation and trying to help from this not happening anymore and instead of letting him speak they criticize him and his music for being part of the reason why the kids did it GARR!! >:\
they say music can alter moods and talk to you well can it load a gun up for and cock it to
incase you aint on twitter

yeah like nas said, they never show ‘i know i can, be what i wanna be, if i work hard at it’
its not music fucking up kids, music is a reflection of society
and this is why Nas is my Fav.rapper!! and the reason hes betta than Jay-Z…
