  1. four homos^

  2. How this dude continues to nonchalantly gets in front of a camera with his shirt off for press photos is beyond me. I feel for the camera crew – they must feel like they’re trapped in an episode of OZ. Or Queer eye for the Rap promo.

  3. “hustla” is a great track

  4. UGLY,UGLY,UGLY,UGLY

  5. this track garbage

  6. maybe its cos im white but i dont get why people glorify going to jail, dont you get bummed in jail?

  7. Triple C’s… is that like Rick Ross’s Double D titties.

  8. triple dickheads

  9. Cool n Dre gave it to Triple C’s? oh my god… Nas and Game would use this beat much better

  10. This dumb ass hate on Ross is old ,corny and tired.
At the end of the day, all of the music that he has released, has been either credible or near classic.
Name ONE artist/crew that Shake or his wigga partner have put up that’s has put out more music, on a regular, and been as unmistakably good as Ross and Triple C’s?

You guys on here remind me of those conservative drones who follow the mass of dumb thinking because you’re too lazy to either think for yourself and do your own research.
Half of the bullshit 2dopeboyz co-sign on here are forgettable talents on unremarkable records.
Countless throwaway mixtapes and hapless video interviews with artist who wont EVER have a lasting impression on hip hop clutter the space here yet they choose to constantly put themselves in some purported position of knowledge by claiming who is “real” or who isn’t.
If you have a problem with how a man looks, check your sexuality.
Do u NEED to envision a handsome man when listening to a record?
    I don’t.
    People say B.I.G was ugly.
Who cares. His music was dope.
Judge the music or run a gossip blog.

“At the end of the day, all of the music that he has released, has been either credible or near classic.”
[u must be smoking crack cooked in kool-aid]

“Name ONE artist/crew that Shake or his wigga partner have put up that’s has put out more music, on a regular, and been as unmistakably good as Ross and Triple C’s?”
[slaughterhouse, donny goines, skyzoo, drake, the roots, qUEst, UNI, pac div, tanya morgan, jay rock, jay electronica, WU-TANG, termanology, blu, j.cole, wale, brother ali, i could on...]

  12. @ iDopeboy, so because I’m black I probably do glorify going to jail? Generalization is often not the smartest way to go about it. But yeah this shit sucks.

  13. Kev g

Do u know the meaning of “consistent”?
On the regular.More than once. Had at least 2 albums out that was considered at least good.

    Slaughterhouse had ONE failed album
    Donny Goines has NO ALBUM
    Skyzoo…who??
    Drake has ONE MIXTAPE/EP
    Quest…keep searching
UNI…Why do u even put these obscure rap groups in the mix?
    Pac Div has NO ALBUM
    Tanya Morgan as NO ALBUM
    Jay Rock has NO ALBUM
    Jay Electronica has NO ALBUM
    Termaology has NO ALBUM
    Blu has NO ALBUM
    J.Cole has NO ALBUM
    Wale has NO ALBUM
    Brother Ali has NO ALBUM

Please…go on with your list of ner do wells and mixtape kings.
Until you have to contend with people buying your album and putting out albums on a regular, all those cats can’t get in the arguement
The Roots are not in the same VEIN as Rick Eoss and Triple C’s.

Name ONE “credible” hip hop source that has panned or has found Rick Ross’ albums to be wack or not good?

“Deeper Than Rap” was one of the best reviewed albums of the year.

You sound like a fucking clown ass poser who follow what other people say is hot.
90% of the cats you posted on your response, have no name recognition outside of the blogs and fringe underground.
Talk about them when they go head to head with the big boys of the industry.
Drake is the ONLY one that has shown any real gift of competition.
    Maybe J.Cole might be next.
    The rest…
“…potential is a promise left unfulfilled.”

Until it’s done, all you have is potential.

  14. Brother Ali has multiple albums.. Champion, Us, Shadows on the Sun, & Truth is Here. Wale has more lyrical talent than Rick Ross. He may not have an album, but his mixtapes wipe the floor with most of Rick Ross’ output. Mixtape About Nothing was stellar, as was 100 Miles and Running. Back to the Feature was a solid mixtape, and the singles he has released have been top notch.

Saying that ONLY Drake shows any real gift of competition, tells us that you listen to purely radio rap. Drake was on degrassi.. enough said. his music is alright but not anywhere the lyrical prowess of Wale, Brother Ali, or even Donny Goines.

  15. “Brother Ali has multiple albums…”

    That’s news to me.
    LMAO.
What the fuck…does Drake being on “Degrassi” have to do with puttin out good music?
What the fuck do u do for a livin’?
Does that mean you don’t qualify to be a rapper?
    Fuckin clown ass posers…lol
    U cats crack me up.
Mixtapes don’t mean shit that’s why EVERYONE HAS ONE!!
    Ask the LOX about mixtapes.
Jadakiss and crew killed niggaz on the mixtapes.
His/Their albums has for the most part been garbage.

Puttin out miixtapes is like winning in a cipher battle.

Outside of your circle, you still aint prove shit.

    I don’t own a radio so I couldn’t tell you what’s in rotation.
But I can tell you what makes a good song and how hard it is to translate that into a full album.
    Lyrics don’t mean shit.
If you can’t combine that with a hot song, then your not a true artist.
Serius Jones has lyrics for days…and about 15 seconds more in the spotlight.
Don’t argue a point you can’t articulate correctly.
Know your hip hop and stop actin like you just got here.

  16. This is nice. I look forward to this album coming out in October…

  17. Officer Ricky needs to lay off the donuts…dude needs to wear a bro.

  18. THIS IS THE BEGING OF A TIGHT ASS LP..

  19. @ THE INVISIBLES
“The Roots are not in the same VEIN as Rick Eoss and Triple C’s.” i really hope you mean that the legendary roots crew are better than ross and triple c’s

“Name ONE artist/crew that Shake or his wigga partner have put up that’s has put out more music, on a regular, and been as unmistakably good as Ross and Triple C’s?”
last time i checked, triple c’s [not rick ross as a solo artist] themselves don’t have 2 or more consecutive and/or consistent albums. and if they did, i highly doubt they were worth listening to. termanology has an ALBUM [politics as usual], brother ali got ALBUMs [rites of passage, shadows on the sun, champion, undisputed truth], blu got ALBUMS [below the heavens, the piece talks, johnson&jonson], tanya morgan has ALBUMS [moonlighting, brooklynati], skyzoo got an ALBUM [cloud 9: the 3 day high and the salvation coming out on the 29th], donny goines has an ALBUM [the breakfast club], wale’s ablum is coming out in november, u-n-i has an ALBUM [a love supreme], drake has multiple mixtapes besides ’so far gone’ [comeback season, room 4 improvement, heartbreak drake], and slaughterhouse’s album runs circles ’round anything triple c’s & rick ross might attempt to run around before he passes out from loss of air. i will admit, u got me on the album thing with jay rock, quest, jay elect, j. cole, and pac div.

but, above all this in your initial response, u said MUSIC, not ALBUMS, and all those people who don’t have albums yet still make great fucking MUSIC. it’s 2009 my nigga, nowadays a mixtape is the best you can expect from artists and that’s where the best MUSIC is when nobody’s buying albums. check ya own shit next time.

  20. how does informing you on albums that brother ali has make me or anyone a poser? you clearly dont know your shit. Rick Ross put out some good shit, cant say the same for triple c’s. albums dont make an artist. As kevG said, its about the music they make. your points are null and you seem to want to shoot down anyone that respect the lesser known/under publicized artists. how does a mixtape not mean shit? yea, sure, everyone has them.. but that doesnt make every mixtape quality. if youre talking about quality MUSIC, which i perceive you are. then mixtapes have just as much to do with an artist as the albums they may or may not put out. Quit hatin and respect the artists. Music is music whether its on an album, or a mixtape. Some of the best shit you’ll hear will be on a mixtape. So dont lecture me about being a “clown ass poser,” when the only poser is yourself. Expand your mind past buying albums and look at the big picture, theres quality MUSIC out there, sometimes its just on a mixtape.

  21. haha wtf rick ross put a shirt on

  22. The initial response was to the constant misguided faux hate that seems to permeate in the comment section along with Shakes almost homo erotic posting of a shirtless Ross, every time a Ross track leaks.
My point in saying who can truly compete on Ross’ level, in his lane, was to illustrate just how few out there can do it on a regular.
When I say on his level, I mean with a fan base who have and will BUY their music.
Your points would have made more sense if you threw in The Clipse since they are rappin about virtually the same ignorant shit Ross is and over quality beats.
But if you scream in an empty forest, whose to say you actually screamed?
None of the people you and your quasi heads named have done BOTH, thus rendering the counter claim invalid.
Sure, there’s better singers out there than Whitney Houston.
But have they done it on her level?
Jigga ain’t the best rapper alive.
But who has done it on his level for that long?
My point is about being dope AND competitive.
I’ve been runnin’ J.Cole’s “Warm-Up” in the car for weeks.
Brother Ali joints “The Believers” and “Good Lord” was my shit awhile back.
    Pac Div is doin it
Jay Electronica is the truth if he wasn’t to stingy with the releases.
But by and large, they arent competitive as far as the WHOLE music game is concerned because they’ve only been able to master
    half of it
They’re the flip side of the Soulja Boyz of the game.
He can sell some units, but is he really helping hip hop overall?

Expand your mind past albums and look at the big picture….
Can you maintain a certain level of quality output and grow a fan base?
If all you’re good at is giving away music, how will you know if you’re good at selling it?

And you’re comparing dope records to dope lyricist.
I don’t think Ross is a better lyricist then say Jay Electronica, J.Cole, Brother Ali or anyone from Slaughterhouse.
But he has made better records than all of them combined and has been a competitive M.C.

  23. @The invisibles– go away.
    Seriously.
This is not a blog for people like you.

Not trying to hate, you do have a legit point, its just that this site is devoted to bringing the underground hiphop that you take a stance against in your posts. 2dp gives chances to talented artists that havent gotten a break into the industry yet.

Ross hit his peak a couple of years ago, when gangster rap was still cool, and his style was in. Things have shifted significantly since then, and he hasnt adapted. The industry is going in the direction of lyricism, and music as a whole is shifting away from record sales and back to artistry.

I guarantee you that some of the people on your ‘newcomers’ list have bigger fan bases than Ross. And I think its ridiculous to ever, EVER, say Ross is better in any way than the Roots.

Back to my point, this site brings progressive music, and lets fans catch new artists who are on there way to doing it big.

If you like Ross, ok, but don’t try to defend him here.

  24. Does anyone find it funny that Ross in fact has size triple C’s?

  25. “Damn Cover Them Titties Up” Materialistic Cocaine Rap Is Dead

  26. …. moral of the story is… Deeper Than Rap IS one of the best albums this year along with OB4CL2, Man On The Moon, BP3, The Ecstatic, and many more. Ross IS a good MC and has an ear for beats, but he sure does like to embarass himself, especially with his group. AND all of you c-boys on this section sure do sound like homos critizing a man’s looks. come on people, this isn’t Perez’ Hilton blog, aight?…

  27. To the “visible”(clown ass name)

    Suck a dick…lol

U sound like you’re part of the herd

    “…,Ross hit his peak”
Even with the C.O backlash, the 50 cent attacks and the overall shrinking music market, he still was #1.
How many on that list ever did that before or after the market turn?
If the “industry has shifted” as you so aptly put it, how many on that list has gotten better sales this time than previous albums?

U really are just talkin shit to try and make your point sound valid but it’s backed by NO FACTS.

    The industry hasnt changed.
    It’s just gotten smaller.

The industry is still predicated on getting behind whoever has a buzz…regardless of talent or looks.
The difference than Drake and blu…
Drake had a song that played universally and reached a wider audience.
Do you work for wigga man and nope boy here at 2 dopeboyz?
Cause it seems as though the put up EVERYTHING that comes down the pike.

U clowns are just like the so called “back packer” crowd in the 90’s.
U think you’re too cool for school backing what you THINK is that next shit instead of just that hot song.

You gonna go from thinkin Kid Cudi is sayin some deep shit to later in life turnin into Melle Mel…lost to hip hop and unable to let go of some fantasy of what hip hop is suppose to be

  28. lookin like the HOODS pretty ricky in that orange

  29. tha homie RICKY RO$$ knows how to pick them beats

  30. Okay, so you’re saying this:
Hip hop is about following people who have buzz.

Just because an artist such as Blu has no mainstream hits doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have a massive fan base. Take other artists as examples.
Charles Hamilton (pre-overexposure) had one of the most devoted fanbases in hiphop at one point, with no mtv hit unless you count brooklyn girls.
Radiohead (granted its not hiphop) put out ‘in rainbows’ letting customers choose their price, had no mainstream hit, and STILL turned profit and gained fans.
This type of thing IS THE WAY that Mickey Factz, Kid Cudi, etc. all got record deals, and they are on their way.
    There are your facts.
Are you saying that these underground artists have no buzz?
If you say hip hop is about following those with buzz, arent you proving my point?
‘Buzz’ is what an artist has when they’re on the rise, not once they’ve hit the top. Once they’re in Ross’ position, they’re mainstream, and YOURE the one following the herd.
Oh, and don’t put words in my mouth. Im never going to deny that someone has good music just because theyve hit mainstream. Cudi is the shit.
However, Ross didnt sell because of art, or buzz. He sold because people were already familiar with his name. Its the reason Mcdonalds sells hamburgers. Its not that theyre better than in-and-out burger (if you argue that they are youre just stupid), it’s just that its what people are used to. But hiphop is a different industry than fast food. Hiphop is about following those with buzz. Ross will fade out.

  31. Bitch.

  32. visible…

Either you’re a fuckin idiot or you can’t read

    I’m goin’ with both…and gay.

No where in your response did you answer any of my points.
U went on to talk about “buzz” when that wasn’t even the point I was making.

    Dummy.

You’re a fuckin idiot who wants to argue a point in which you don’t know any of it’s sides to.

And to think the industry is any differennt than fast food shows your incredible ignorants.
Music is pumped out and mass produced, marketed and branded in the same way, in an effort to sway and keep a loyal customer.
The more consistent a brand is and the more reliable it can be shown to be, customers are more likely to seek them out.

But you’re only as good as your product.

And how the fuck are you comparing an already established multi- platinum, world wide known artist like Radiohead, who decides to sell a new cd to an already million plus base, to some up and coming artist living off of buzz and club dates?

    Underground artisr have buzz.
But that doesnt mean shit if it doesnt translate to sales.
Labels have been getting burnt with “buzz” artist for the longest.
    Look at Papoose…
all buzz and no ability to make a hot record.
    Look at Joe Budden
All buzz, swollen eye and STILL no hit.
    Rass Kass
    same

Name one album, just one, this year, that received as much praise as Rick Ross’ “Deeper Than Rap’ album….from an underground artist, and also went on to sell well…
It should be easy for you since the market is changing and real lyricism is winning.

    right?

    lmao

You really need to shut the fuck up and sit your ass down somewhere.

    IDIOT.

  33. Okay,

Let me start by saying that opinions in regards to music (or, really anything) is not liable to be supposed by facts unless you’re talking about sales and albums released – neither which determine the TALENT of an artist more so than the backing of the media machine.

With that being said, this is my OPINION: while I have no idea (or real concern) as to the authenticity of Rick Ross’ life or music, it is hard to deny that the man has near-impeccable taste in production selection. That there gives him an edge over a wide range of artists out now. I would never make the argument for Ross to be a sharp lyricist – in fact, I couldn’t recite an entire Rick Ross verse to save my life. To me, he says just enough to not ruin the rest of his songs. So, comparisons to underground artists touted for being nice with words are kind of reaching. You don’t listen to Ross for wordplay, you do so for production.

The bottom line is this: complaining about Rick Ross and his music is pretty senseless. You know EXACTLY what his songs are going to be about: money, foreign cars, women and a soundtrack to a hustler’s lifestyle that he has more than likely either exaggerated or never experienced. But, that doesn’t change the way it plays out in the surround-sound system. If I was a drug dealer, I may be offended with his success. But, I’m not, so I’m not. I just press play and let it all ride out.
