I love how when this cat first started out he didn’t curse in any of his songs, then he tried his blood image, before he was a gangsta, then he turned pop, and BAM! Let’s get one thing straight, I grew up on late 80’s, early 90’s rap and hip hop, I really have no stake in defending today’s music. But, why are debating what is considered “good,” if clearly, no one can even set a standard on what “good” music is in today’s age?

I am also an eighties baby and seen the golden era of hip-hop but much like a child it has to grow and evolve. I’m not a real Wayne fan but I give him respect for his accomplishments. Quick example (and last rant I promise). Both Common and Kanye lost me for a minute when they “diversified”. But I’ve never been to Paris to even be influenced by personal experiences there. So if I shit on them for ‘growing’ then do I really appreciate them in the first place???
I thought this was actually a pretty good documentary. And people hate on Wayne waaaaaaaaaaay too much. If you don’t like him fine, but the fact is that in the mainstream, he WAS the biggest star in 2008 (musically anyway). He was by FAR the most popular artist that year, and honestly no artist can really claim it this year so I wouldn’t be surprised if he still is.
If you went through every person’s iPod age 13-28 you’d probably find more Wayne tracks than any two other artists combined. And no, that doesn’t mean he’s the best, but it does mean something.
