Rakim – Holy Are You [Stream]

The long-awaited album finally drops this fall, but here’s the first single off it. It’s. About. Time. Good lord this song goes in. SHAKE UPDATE: YES!! And I’d usually post the big artwork after the jump… but it’s fucking Rakim. Also, I’ve been asked to only stream. Sorry to those that missed the download link. I’m sure it’s around.

  22. My god. Shivers down my spine.

  23. glookin

  24. wow dope beyond comment

  25. I caught the link. FINALLY. I’m 21 and I gave it until I was 30 til this album would drop. He beat me by 9 years.

  26. Nice, best I’ve heard from dude for a while, even over that last Just Blaze throwaway that leaked a year or so ago. Feeling this joint, the production is not dated, but its not contrived either just to fit. And since Rakim is pretty much the reason a lot of emcees flow the way they flow today it sounds very lyrically relevant with Ra doing what Ra does best, telling you how ill he is in the most creative of ways…..dope. 2009 has really impressed me, this takes it to another level

  27. wow this shit is dope, thnks to the homie bryan for saving us from lookin all over the net lol

  28. Did anybody elses heartrate accelerate during the third verse? What I have been missing; HIP HOP.

  29. who produced this?

  30. “Good lord this song goes in.”

    ^^^^ LMAO….

  31. i think it could happen. nas and rakim = god and christ. jay electro is already working with nas – a disciple if you will.

  32. only 30 comments for a rakim song… smh… this song is ill. looking forward to the album

  33. ^^ shit just got posted, calm your ass down.

  34. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW shits hard

  35. After about 5 listens, this might be the track of the year so far IMO …damn I’m so happy right now!

  36. i got goosebumps. holy fucking shit.

  37. shit is super fire but why’s every beat gotta have those ugly synths nowadays?

  38. This is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper dope, hopefully this album comes out. I want to hear some of those Dre collabs that will never see the light. BTW who produced this, beat is ill?

  39. And does anyone know what label this is supposed to come out on?

  40. SMC Recordings from the BAY AREA

  41. G&E Trust and SMC recording

  42. You could learn alot from wiki, 2Pac even paid tribute to Rakim. I did not know that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rakim#Musical_tributes

  43. Track produced by ….
    J.Cardim hahahah

  44. Beat sucks asscracks. I was amped during the intro being I figured it would be that bangin Axelrod sample. It was, but with faggoty bitch sounding keyboard presets over it. Needs a remix ASAP.

  45. 18th letter is the best!

  46. fuckin nice

  47. this is win

  48. All praise Rakim Allah…this has win all over it

  49. best song lyrically I’ve heard in years. Him and nas = goat

  50. goosebumps.

the God mc is backkkk !!!

hip hop is coming the fuck back….all new class mcs actually, rap. and the old legends are totally behind them…..sick shit.

  51. Very nice production.

    Hes flowing a bit slow.

Hopefully Rakim finds his groove again.

  52. this is the best song i’ve ever heard…

  53. dope

  54. i downloaded off the main page… you gotta love RealPlayer 11 web downloader…192 kbps..lmao…Ra = Greatest emcee of all time…by a wide margin!!!!!!!!!

  58. “A MODERN DAY KING TUT.”

    Indeed.

  59. i’ve got to be honest, these comments made me think it was going to be way better than it was… way over-hyped
    it’s alright though

  60. This is dope.

  61. and what are you looking for OD> ? lyrics wise it is as good as everyone here has said kid.

  62. I agree with stop said….Maybe you need to clean yo ears out and listen to that track again!

  63. one of my favorite rakim verses is from the watcher part 2 (sample)
    dope

  64. just talking bout the lack of this album existing yesterday … i’m crazy impressed.

  65. DOPE!!!

  66. It feels like the good old days. Man is god. Holy are you. Bless, bless.

  67. Not feeling the beat on this one, I agree with Mr.Tibbs, this needs a remix. Put those verses on a dope beat and you have a classic song.

  68. rakim (god MC) –> nasir jones (god son) –> jay electronica

    holy lineage

  69. god i hope he worked with peterock and premo

  70. Dope song, but I’ll believe the album is coming out when I see it in stores. He put out tracks for the 7th Seal album too, and it had about 85 different release dates. This doesn’t have a release date, just a fuckin SEASON??? Album dropping “this fall”? Ok….

  71. @neworleanian AMEN

  72. Incredible

  73. its aliiiiive!!!!!!!!!!
    its aliiiiive!!!!!!!!!!

  75. RAKKKIIM ALLLAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hollllyy are yoooouuuu

I fucking love it, hip hop just got a pulse

  76. Man I cant explain it all the music I listen to makes me feel like shit, its so derogatory and negative, this shit makes me want to back to the gym throw on five plates and dead lift it until my eyes bleed in the name of the lord or hop in the library and study for lsat’s or mcatz.. yes i have issues but they are good issues lol i love the fucking hook

  77. He came strong on this one. I liked the live performance of “It’s nothing” and heard the regular joint and was a little disappointed… Holy are you is anything but disappointing, let’s sit back and breathe this shit in, this is the real.

  78. Nice return

  79. I really hope whoever gave this track up reads comments and attempts to give us what we all want to hear. I’ll have to agree with Rakim and Nas on this track. Hip-Hop could definitely use that.

  80. so can i buy this or do i have to find a free DL link?

  81. if we continue to build it, it will come.

(in reference to my Rakim, Nas, Jay Electronica collabo suggestion)

seriously…think of Exhibit A with the three of them. A sick ass slower burner. mad verbal intercourse going down. pause. one of these cats got to have the budget to make it happen…i’m thinking Nas.

  82. haha @ neworleanin

  120. dunno. contentwise its good….flow is good….beat….dunno. nothing special to me. but nevertheless i like it.

  121. beat is fucking boring and weak
having to wait so long for new Rakim music and it ends up being this makes me want to go back to sleep

  122. I have mixed feelings about this joint. I won’t be biased b/c its Rakim but the song is a bit boring. I feel like each verse was on a previous song.

  123. rakim sounds uninspired spitting these lyrics, and good lyrics they are… a shame

  124. Heres what I think about that

    http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=6d5f6775851081f3ed24a2875c7fa58eff1e40a59e2ba0525621d66e282a0ee8

  125. i’m really feelin this.
i think 09 is a really gud year 4 hip hop. cuz we gt Em, Rakim, Wu-Tang, if 50 Cent’s album wuz like his last 2 mixtapes den he included in dis list. Royce Da 5′9″ is cummin bak wit slaughterhouse.

  128. LMAO ^ ur an idiot. wow he was before Nas if anything Nas bit him. SMH learn ur history

    ================================================================

From now on, nothing you say shall be taking seriously. AT ALL.

  143. @ Mark Twain Fame true story thats whats wrong with hip hop man these kids got the game fucked up.

  144. fuck rakim, and fuck black people

  145. Complacent has just made the comment of the year, ladies and gentlemen.

  146. I guess most won’t understand his lyrics listening to all of that Soulja Boy. I’m not hatin’… but even Jigga’s got the game twisted. Do the math-it’s not hard to see. Ra dropped so many jewels on kats and some will still walk away, dumb, deaf and blind. I hope he elevates a fraction of that. Other than that… I hope the rest of the album is on par with this release.

    PEACE

  152. Who produces it?

  153. this shit is dooope…but to say this is lyrically the best thing you’ve ever heard is ridiculous, Pun got a few joints better and so does 3K and a few others

  155. I think this is pretty dope. The beat is a bit too synthy for me, but over-all I think this song is dope!

And to those wondering who the producer is: It’s Nick Wiz (”long-time Rakim collaborater” according to HipHop Galaxy)
