Brooklyn’s own Bekay sits down with UGHH’s Van Stylez for an in-depth interview that covers everything from Bekay’s upcoming album Hunger Pains, to his thoughts of the game post 2000, to his not so flattering opinion of Asher Roth. Hungers Pains is slated for an October 13th release date with the first single I Am, produced by The Alchemist to be dropping later this summer. The album’s second single Brooklyn Bridge feat. Masta Ace (prod. by DJ Babu) will be dropping shortly thereafter- a video for both tracks are in progress.

If you think about it, there’s really nothing safe about Asher Roth. A white guy…normal white guy…from a middle class family…who went to college…wants peace…is about the environment…and wears sandals. In hip-hop, how is that safe? If you look at a lot of popular white rappers a lot of their content is boarder line psycho (not all obviously). Having almost a caricature of your typical young white male become successful in hip-hop isn’t just surprising, it’s also what I would consider progress.
This guy failed as soon as he started making fun of Asher for going to college. It’s sad that people who claim to be real hip-hop so ignorantly mock the idea of getting a good education. A horrible message to the youth.

I didn’t take that as him shitting on education or on college at all. I took it as him pointing out how Asher Roths label used college kids to sell Asher to them. Like him pretending hes on of “them” as his gimmic to sell records and I agree with that. It’s Ashers little way to get reckognized since he never had any buzz before Steve Rifkin. I think Asher is ok, just doesn;t have the raw talent Bekay does.
