Unlike my partner in blogging… I have spun Relapse (more than once) and this is one of my favorite joints off the album. I just hope there’s minimal (if not any) Swedish Eminem on Relapse 2. As this and Underground are fantastic, as are the two bonus tracks. Come on Marshall!

I don’t see how people could hate the album. It’s better than what’s out as of right now and people said they hated Encore and wanted better and they got it and still saying they hate it Smh…..People need to fucking lighten up. Try making a solo album after being away for 4 1/2 years and he only had 3 guest verses when everybody else has majority of their songs with someone doing the hook or verse. People need to appreciate shit more. I didn’t expect him to come back and give us something like Eminem Show or MMLP. Too many people expected him to do so but he came back sober and did better than Encore. Relapse 2 will make people eat they words. I guess it’s a racist thing cuz I just don’t understand it.

Decent video, GREAT song.
However, this reminds me of when Kanye made that “Diamonds from Sierra Leone” song about jewelry/the ROC and then made a video about the diamond trade. The video was touching but it was completely incongruous with the track. Same here, great that he made a video about Detroit, which, along with Baltimore, are the two centers of American urban decay. But the song is about how he lost his drive; he doesn’t mention the city or its recent fall from grace.
It’s surprising really that he hasn’t made a song about Detroit. He’s got the intelligence and the artistic ability to craft something special about it. It would also provide a nice contrast to see one exceptionally successful individual in a city that has little to be proud of these days.
i think its hilarious that people will hold the slight accent in higher regard then everything else that makes an mc.

You mention it yourself, Detroit’s downfall. the video is a metaphor for something old/former being lost/destroyed/grown out of and realizing that you should’ve appreciated that thing when you still had it, because when you look past the dirt it’s Beautiful (tie in song title here)
This ties into him, because it’s saying like the old dirty baseball stadium, people depended on him and he tore down his former self through drugs/alcohol, but he didn’t realize until it was really gone that he should’ve appreciated it and that it’s beautiful….Detroit used to be a great place to live and was a successful city, people took that for granted and the crime moved in/the jobs/manufacturing moved out.
So many cliches could fit here (You don’t know what youve got till it’s gone, You never see the beauty in the mud) but in this case, it’s completely true. Remember, cliches only became cliche because there is/was some level of truth to them.

First off, the video quality here is total fucking trash. The snippet we saw the other day looked beautiful (ha, pun). This looks like some taped off TV, 3rd generation, VHS POS. You can’t see half of what’s going on. The video/sound skips/jumps at points. There’s no way in fuck this is the official release of the video (if it is, someone needs to step their quality control/compression settings up).
I’m not faulting 2DBz or any other site linking to it (although Rap Radar shouldn’t get a pass here thanks to the Rosenberg connection), but I feel like OnSmash, possibly the best source for hip hop videos online, really dropped the ball here.

the 3rd verse is probably missing for a reason being that it would’ve gotten faded out after the 2nd verse anyway on mtv or bet for time preference. plus it shows enough of the song that if people like it they can cop the cd to hear the rest of it.
