After the news broke on Monday, Drake spoke with MTV about signing with Young Money Records.
...it’s almost impossible to go fully independent. This was basically like the closest thing I could get to my own independence, to sort of continuing to be that guy to the fans that, you know, is trying to prove something — trying to prove that it can be done. So with that being said, I signed directly to Cortez Bryant and Gee Roberson, my two managers, and their company Inspire. It’s a joint venture with Young Money, so that’s the deal. I know there’s been a lot of stuff on the Internet about different entities, but that’s the people involved in the main record deal. And then it’s distributed through Universal, so it’s great, man. You know, if we can sell some records I think it could be a pretty legendary situation.
I plan to work with Wayne for the rest of my career, so I think it’s a smart career move,” he added. “You know, everybody else [on Young Money] will hopefully work out the situations, get the right people on the album. I think it was important for me to show him that I believed in him as much as he believed in me. Because a lot of months he stuck his neck out there for me, you know with [performing with Drake on the BET Awards Sunday], and then ‘Ransom‘ and all the songs that we put out. And the things he would say in interviews, he really put himself out there for me. So I think it was only just and fair to show him that I feel the same way.

The only artist on Young Money’s roster causing any kind of buzz is…wait for it…”Drake.”
this dude is a product of the machine. and anyone who supports him is just feeding the same machine that killed hip hop in the first place.
Callous1… how cud u say such a thing when he has underground heads buzzin too?
Does drake get that best I ever had is so huge because major labels were pushing it for him, so he would sign with them. I mean obviously that’s not the only reason it’s successful, but this shit he keeps saying about it and his buzz being totally organic is such bullshit
hmmm interested in seeing how this goes. I would’ve liked to see him sign to RocNation….but it’s w/e
for the rest of his life hmm see this tha shit i was afraid of now he is going to suck just like wayne
I think he’ll do well as long as early supporters of Drake don’t all of a sudden give him the cold shoulder because he has linked up with an artist they don’t like or think he’s “a product of the machine.” Fans are so jealous and fickle that way. You loved him when he was the best kept secret and you could brag about this talented artist in front of your friends while driving, but now hate him because he’s getting mainstream exposure. You can see it through the comments when this news was first announced.
It’s the same routine that happened to Asher Roth. First he had an approval rating that would make Obama blush. A year later, you’d be lucky to find a positive comment on any content involving Asher Roth. I hope people will let Drake get his album together BEFORE thinking his album will crash and burn just because he’s associated with Young Money and Wayne. He is not wack by association kids.
I just hope dude’s album isn’t full of young money features.
drake sure does sound enthusiastic about his young money deal
eh wanderin you’re somewhat right, probably nail on the head for some cats. But its more so people seeing the potential in the artist and then realizing that a signing like this could just as easily throw all that out the window in the long run.
@MethodMouse…..co-sign all the way.
:turns on get over it: they seem to love…. well you know the verse
at least he loyal. he probably should have went someonewhere else. but as far as loyalty, and probably really being able to make the most organic music that is true to him, this is probably the place to be. don’t get caught up in shadows though. he’s waynes peer. he doesnt have to be his apprentice.
sidebar: i dont think shake is black….and all that is unnecessary homie. how you gone go to somebody house. try to get their friends to chill with you, and shit on the host of the party
He extra hyph about it.
If I were him, I’d feel like, I was SUPPOSED to sign with him, You’Know?
Drake + RocNation = More Drake & Jay Records.
Drake + YoungPedophiles (yes, I will continue calling them until they adress the shit) = Decline in Musical Quality.
smh, this is the worse move Dude could make so far (gone).
kixionary is so extra.
Shake isn’t black?
PLOT TWIST?! (Lol.)
Wonderin
I don’t think Drake could even said that better himself. Great points made.
I’m a long time fan of homey. I hate to see people do that. The same thing happened with Lupe. They are dope and so underrated, then when they get buzz, all of a sudden they are overrated? Give me a break. It’s like heads don’t ever want to see their artists succeed. Like they’d rather keep them tangible I guess…but the whole plight was for the brother to find success. As a longtime fan tho…I also want Drake to reward those who have rocked with him for the past three years. I like all of Drake’s music for the most part, from the singing and more Weezy influenced swag on “SO FAR GONE”, all the way back to the Phonte/Little Brother influenced Comeback Season and of course my favorite style, the most original sounding “Room For Improvement” Drake. All I request of him is that his major label album debut be a balance of those three tapes. I sure hope he hooks up with 9th Wonder again (after somebody hypnotizes 9th to pretend like it’s 2003 again) and get some classics out of that. I always felt that he felt that he needed to pay homage back to Wayne for putting him on. Now he needs to get back on what made us dig his music in the first place.
Only four words left to say: This should be interesting.
young son SHUT THE FUCK UP. Mad fucking annoying
@ young son, take wheel chair jimmy’s cock out your mouth. he’s good or what not, but damn save all that boo boo talk for a fan letter to the nigga or something. we get it, you been a fan of the nigga since his square days.
oh yeah i almost forgot, Jae MIllz, what happened to you, not music wise but health wise, you a fat nigga these days.
Sincerely,
The reason your album will never drop, Drake.
A person who chose a screen name talking about dickriding Drake?
What an oxy-MORON.
And why do people get uppity and offended if someone says they’ve been listening to someone for a while. WTF. It’s not like I was looking for some approval or a cookie or something. I was just being real. Real people say real stuff. Wussy type cats sit behind computers and act lame. Man, it’s so many ignorant/dumb people in the blog world. It makes me sick daily. Can’t even discuss hip hop on a hip hop blog without hearing some faggotry responses.
thank god for drake. who the fuck needs his music? not me.
Lmfao, I was going to say the same thing Young Son.
Young Son speaks thy truth!
And how can people judge drake already before he puts any music out on young money….wait for the shitty songs at least lol
Callous1 = sell ur computer n put that money toward a better cause cuz ur too fuckin stupid to be commenting on this shit..obviously
As he should! He made a great decision
Read a different take on Drake’s signing with Young Money over at The Recon. Let it be known what you think as well!

You may not have noticed this, but you contradicted yourself in that article.
The first sentence in the third paragraph goes, “This is not a forgone conclusion though. Drake is good, but has no album so already he is wasting the buzz he has garnered so far.”
Then your very last sentence goes, “Now he might have just started his walk into the sunset with this seemingly ill-advised grab at captializing on the buzz right now and not looking toward the future.”
So…which one is it? He’s not taking advantage of the buzz or he’s waiting too long? This is what’s wrong with peoples analysis on this subject.
There’s no right or wrong way to go about this. A lot of people have had disappointing albums BECAUSE THEY RUSH THE RELEASE while they is a buzz. There have also been people who have struck while the irons hot and have thrived. Drake has already said he’s not rushing the release just because he’s getting noticed. It’s smart because he’s been on the collab/features tip with multiple artists so he has some time to get his album together.
And you spelled “capitalizing” wrong.

young son, your moms the fucking best i ever had. she the, she the best.
oh god young son is still on that “I’ve been listening to him since his first breath” bullshit. same type of kid to listen to something because its not mainstream. just stop kid.
first the young money deal, a lame excuse for his success, that piece of shit best i ever had video, and his lame ass excuse for that. im still a drake fan, but something tells me hes gonna fall off big time
You’re Wack…you are excatly what your name says you are. Whatever you said made no sense. “Same type of kid to listen to something because it’s not mainstream? Not at all. That’s the rest of my age group that wants to show extra hard that they rep for REAL HIP HOP. That’s lame. I said I rock with Drake cuz I rock with Drake. Once people start saying that supporting an artist is dickriding, hip hop dies.
Thanks for contributing to the death of hip hop with your theory that support equals dickriding.
“The human mentality so eager to hate something…or try to play it off like it ain’t jumping”-Drake, Going In For Life
Yo, Drake has alotta haters and honestly.. like da dude will get hated on anyway no matter what label he signs with. I think one reason dat it was great for him to sign with Young Money was because its a label with an investment and exploriin ideas for da young adults and new and upcoming artists. But what I hate is da fact dat Wayne owns ds label he can use Drake for money.. Drake ghostwrites for da boy. His potential can be used elsewhere? Ya feel me?
