50 Cent on Drake’s “Buzz” (Video)

During his interview with XXL, Curtis speaks on the comparisons between Drake buzz with 50’s from years back.

“I didn’t hear that, I don’t think you can accomplish that right now. Not without finance. I hear his record on the radio. He got a good buzz, I hear him. Shit, it wasn’t possible for my music to be on the radio when I was coming. You know mine’s was completely organic.“

“When you hear a song on the radio it means it’s being worked. Ain’t nothing there just because, enough for it to be playing every hour on the hour. That song is being worked like he’s on a label. You know I’m sure Sylvia Rhone or Universal — they’re spending money to get the record played. They got the public feeling like its just happening.”

“He might not be signed yet, but they may work it to get him to sign. Is it worth it to sign until you develop that?”

And after the jump you can check Fif breaking down his recent War Angel LP.

  1. 50’s a bitch when it comes to beef, but you gotta admit, the man knows his facts. pretty smart dude.

  2. @dcruz.88

Your right 50 sure knows his facts. He said Lil Wayne wasn’t gonna sell a mill the first week, he said Raws’s album was gonna flop, he said he would retire if Graduation sold more then Curtis and implied that 808’s was gonna be a failure. 50 always predicting what’s gonna happen. lol

  3. It might not be the same buzz, but Fif had the Em/Dre/Jimmy engine fueling his buzz… And you couldn’t put his work on the radio because it was straight street shit that he was putting out at the time, but make no mistake he had the backing that he claims wasn’t there…

  4. Drake doesnt have the 50 buzz quite yet, but 50 has fallen off and I could care less about what he says until I hear good music from him. I hope BISD is good…

  5. LOL @ “mine’s was completely organic,” FOH.

  6. Couldnt agree with 50 more, and im a 50 hater. Drake is dope but hes manufactured to the t.

  7. @ Kofi

Ross did flop, Universal buys their own CD’s and Curtis outsold Graduation. Yes, Fif does know his facts and he’s right a lot of the time. You can hate him but he knows his shit.

  8. how about congrats Drake for doin ur thang…i kno its hard for up and comers to succeed in this business, i wish u da best of luck in the future, maybe we can get some money together 1day……..did yall here any of them….NO! dude got all this money and still manages 2hate……WOW UN-FUCKIN-BELIEVABLE…sad thing is some of yall mite think 50 would murder Drake on the mic..lol

  9. Yeah its ya Boy the most hated on What up Fif Get these Singin ass Wallet Chain niggas out the game Drake been in the game for a couple years now yeah hes be used to the public of he is but he likes the spotlight that shit will come to bite him back in the ass when niggas get tired of him singing about bitches all day long where the fuck is the grind and hustle shit at? when in the recession this nigga talking bout im a little bit in love wit you FUCK OUTTA HERE PUSSY G-G-G-G You know what it is NIGGAAAAAA

  10. lmoa at nahright hating…..drake’s team already admitted that they’re pushing “best i ever had” to the radios! when did they addmit this??? on their statement about bootleg drake cd and getting samples cleared for so far gone mixtape

  11. Actually 50 is 100% correct on this…like it or not, that dude knows his shit. Drake is definitely being pushed by somebody behind the scenes. “Best I Ever Had” doesn’t have In Da Club buzz, anybody who was in high school and up when 50 dropped that knows what I mean….my grandmother knew In Da Club….alot of people that know “Best I Ever Had” don’t even know Drake’s name, they just know the song cuz it’s on 24/7. Drake is a flash in the pan…he’s having his time now just like every other mainstream artist gets their 15 minutes.

  12. You guys are ridiculous. All 50 can do is talk about how people do everything wrong and then procede to sell nothing. Curtis did not outsell graduation in the US where it actually mattered it didn’t even go Platinum for like a month and I don’t know if it ever went 2x platinum. Then 50 says singing is gay and look at I’ll Do Anything off War Angel. What a hypocritical has been. 50 needs to sell some records before he talks any more.

  13. As far as Drake goes, he’s got buzz, an album soon, and a tour to fuel both of those. So being pushed or not, those are the facts.

  14. @Quags

Hows can you say 50 Cent sells nothing? You obviously don’t understand who’s reining supreme on Forbes.com ; this nigga sells Vitamin Water, Websites, Albums, Mixtapes, fuck it, he can probably sell you, but your not worth it. The album “Curtis” was put out during the cammron beef, had a few good tracks yet it still outsold Kanye globally; The US is great but people live all over the world. That’s like saying Bob Marley should only sell in Jamaica. Quit hatting on people who make music, and media buzz for themselves, it’s just business.

  15. I gotta agree with fif. why? because it’s true, I mean, he mightve been lieing about his early records being “organic” (see thug Love, which was going to be on the radio, but of course he got shot before the video was finished). It’s true that records dont just happen to get on the radio. You hear the shit you hear on all your top 40’s/pop/rock/hip hop radio stations, because somebody (usually a label) is paying for that record to be played, in this case it’s Drakes. Why? to test the waters. If the people start hyping him up, the labels can sign him knowing he has a secure fan base, if listeners dont take to him, they just wont sign him, but the chance of that is low, because they control the radio and what people hear, which in turn is what people end up “liking”.

With all due respect to drake (Im a fan of the songs he sings on at least) he’s getting buzz because he’s marketable, and labels see that, so they take advantage, because they KNOW they can make him into the next superstar and make a shitload of money off of him.

That’s just the truth, it’s not hate on Drakes “grind”, that’s just how the industry works.

  16. @ spitfire

Yeah I agree 50 is a great businessman but I meant album sales which he currently does not sell. Curtis was 2 years ago and Before I Self Destrust has been delayed and delayed.
You’re right about international sales I guess and the busines thing but as far as records let’s go! I’m not hating I want to see good 50 music as much as anyone else but lately all we get is empty promises and delays

  17. @ Kofi, i wasn’t talking about “predictions”, i was talking about his “industry” facts. he’s obviously a business man, he knows all types of shit.

  18. See, this what happens to music when money is involved. Who cares about who sells what and who makes the most money. Nigga Drake has talent… he acts, sings, and raps.

I feel Drake’s success will come from his talent… while 50’s came from his hustle mentality.

P.S. 50 is garbage as an artist, keep selling vitamin water, nigga!!!

  19. in my opinion, Drake should go solo. i think he could pull it off, not sell as much as 50, but a pleasing amount.

  20. I completely agree with JL a lil’ above me.The only new rapper that has had an organic hit right now without people pullin strings for him is Cudi.Day N’ Nite has been slowly building to what it is today for damn near 2 years now

  21. u can hate 50 all u want but he’s one of the few rappers that knows the buisness side to the game n not just the rap

  22. Diztink, you must not be following Drake’s career and potential. He’s DEFINITELY not a 15-miunutes of fame artist. Homey will be around for a long time. But I’m sure people are probably backing Drake with some money. It’s all good. Pay attention to the interview by 50 and Drake’s lyrics.

“And Sylvia be telling Terrance, damn, Drake fly/And he just be like silly mutha***** I know/

    LOL…nuff said

  23. Every time 50 speaks about Drake he sounds jealous. just my opinion.

  24. pft. bottom line. if they both put out a cd/tape/song tomorrow youd be fucking stupid to not say drakes would most likely be better..thats fact. 50 may be making money elsewhere, but its not public knowledge, he would give all that up to spit fire on the mic, which honestly..ive rarely heard from him, ya maybe his shit was nice on GRODT and before but that to me is cuz like most other artists it was a new sound new artist..he didnt have staying power, dude was a cashcow and now his flames out.

  25. agreed with chuck..dude is green w/ envy

  26. @YoungSon it’s ‘tez’ not ‘terrance’, as in Cortez Brown, Wayne & Drake’s manager and previous president of Young Moola, baby.

    do do do dooooo

  27. @stik to my gunz 50 being better than drake or vice versa wasn’t in question here tho. 50 was only speaking as to Drake’s ‘buzz’, not his talent. and considering 50 is still even relevant in hip-hop today I’ll have to believe he kind of knows how the machine works.

  28. @GDC “Universal buys their own CD’s and Curtis outsold Graduation”

Really? how about you or 50 show some proof. People repeat that label buying back records shit like it’s gospel yet no one has ever proved it. And BTW Universal is also Interscope’s parent company but I don’t think 50 is gonna be saying they bought back albums for him.

  29. niggas ar acting like 50 said he was wack lmao, he actually said he liked him in the flex interview

  30. he’s just saying that his buzz isn’t from the underground, it’s from the mainstream i,e (weezy, yeezy,JayZ, Universal)

  31. drake is canadas best export since the fur trade

  32. P.S. 50 is garbage as an artist, keep selling vitamin water, nigga!!!
    ——————
    drake > 50 lyrically.

  33. “Yeah its ya Boy the most hated on What up Fif Get these Singin ass Wallet Chain niggas out the game Drake been in the game for a couple years now yeah hes be used to the public of he is but he likes the spotlight that shit will come to bite him back in the ass when niggas get tired of him singing about bitches all day long where the fuck is the grind and hustle shit at? when in the recession this nigga talking bout im a little bit in love wit you FUCK OUTTA HERE PUSSY G-G-G-G You know what it is NIGGAAAAAA”

are you mentally handicapped? take your ignorant ass comment to worldstar

  34. its interesting to see his opinion, because fif had a buzz probably stronger than drakes right now. 50s right with what he said, drake IS headed as a mainstream artist, and like one of the earlier comments, his pple are just testing the water.

  35. 50 – biggest hater in the business.

  36. 50 is right. Drake`s RADIO buzz is manufactured ,But so was 50`s. We all know that Clear Channel and the other big company(I can`t remember the name) have a set playlist that contains signed artists. Drake`s record has to be worked for it to be played like that. I like his work and that he is humble, but there has to be pay to play going on here. IMO

  37. @Kevin

he didn’t say anything derogatory towards him, take drakes buzz out your ass and wanyes dick out of your mouth

  38. You gonna listen to So Far Gone and tell me that was label manufactured? That is some raw, obscure, not mainstream shit. Thats indy music made for the people. The record is getting worked cuz its crazy hot. Not cuz labels are making a down payment on Drizzy…

Drake is about to be bigger then the Beatles.

  39. lol @ sloop. amen. WSHH isn’t even readable if you have past an 8th grade education.

  40. no one is takin the time to say drake is actually a nice artist. lyrically hes better then most rappers out right now, includin 50. ive BEENlistenin to his music and still dont have a solid image of what he looks like. does 50 cent every say nething positive?

  41. hellll no!
50 cant even compare himself to drizzy.
he had one good album and fell off!
50 always tryna do some butcher shit
    tryna beef wit everybody.
he needs to just sit down for a while.
mad cuz rick ross the boss killed him off.

  42. This is complete hate on 50’s part.
Why are people so against the fact that an artist can build a buzz from the internet??? His buzz was NOT organic nigga. You had every DJ in NY that worked for Hot 97 to build ya buzz nigga. Because you didn’t spend a large amount of dollas on it doesn’t mean it wasn’t manufacture. You owe ya whole career to Hot 97.

Drake was one of the unknown artists last year that was just popular on the internet. All of his internet followers had big hopes for his career. When he did several songs with Lil’ Wayne and outshined him on most of the songs that got people looking into Drakes catalog. After that most people that listened to his his previous work they liked it which built a big anticipation for his “So Far Gine” mixtape.

How does 50 Cent explain all the fans from the beginning, new fans and even celebrities download the mixtape before “Best I Ever Had” became a smash hit single around the country????? I guess all that was manufactured too. What 50 fails to either realize or admit is that Drake was a underground artists with a lot of fans and a big buzz before the mixtape “So Far Gone”
Shit people were furious when he didn’t make the XXL Freshman 10 list and almost every artist on that list gets pushed and are signed to a major label.

This is just a case of 50 Cent not doing his home work and doesn’t know the history of Drake. He probably thinks Drake came out of nowhere so he’s just another person that got lucky and won’t be relevant. Because you can’t figure where all the support is coming from you think it’s all made up and manufactured from a record label. Beware 50 because he’s had a “internet” buzz then radio got him more fans and he’s even stealing your fans.

50 Cent is so inconsistent musically that people don’t take you serious any more because your all hype. You’re a good artist with overrated music (at least the last 3 albums).

  43. I feel stupid because I was one of the many fans who created this arrogant dick head. I can give him credit for the fact that he has a way with words and manipulating people to be on his side. But when you really break down what he is saying he’s just an intelligent hater. Every ones hustle is wak or lame and his is always the exception to the rule.

  44. Landforce Bigger than the beetales? Nigga get his dick outta your ass. GOD DAMN

  45. Ditto to SHOWMAN3000 50’s acting ignorant speakin on this shit without doin the homework on Drake first. Hes BEEN grinding underground for a few years now.
“To the people that ignored me before this
This one is for you as a song re-recorded
Funny thing is, you just notice me now but I was here along
    Your vision’s just been distorted
I’m so [?] I live this, you ask me what the business
And I write a sixteen and record it, uh
The waiting is over I think music need it
Drake cuttin his records without gettin weeded
People in the South want it chopped and screwed, I got this dude
They expectations Imma exceed it uh..”
    Fuck 50.. G-uNOT

  46. Grindin? nobody knew who this nigga was until LIL wanye started sucking his motherfuckin dick his buzz in manufactured and you assholes are buying into it.

  47. Orrrr maybe you’re one of those lames who’s caught up in the stupid bullshit radio play and YOU didnt know who he was til Best I Ever Had or Every Girl got radio play.
Step your fuckin game up. He dropped 3 mixtapes b4 So Far Gone.

  48. @LilMizLoca

I’m not sure who that was too but I agree with Drake been around for a minute. I heard him 1st in ‘07 and he’s been around since let’s say ‘06

And for you people who said ‘no one knew him before Lil’ Wayne’ is an out right lie. Get ya facts right. I found out about Drake through several different threads on websites (which means he had a big following prior to ‘07 & ‘08). There were a lot of people pushing Toronto artists (like Belly, Page, JT Era, Promise and more) and he was the more talked about one because he was famous from acting in Toronto, linking up with Trey Songz, had a ton of airplay, had a video on 106 & Park (2 yrs ago) and a lot of known Toronto artists wanted him to feature on their songs (kinda like he is now is the US. Deja Vu? No).

Does all that sound manufactured? If you say yes, you’re obviously hating. Do your homework before you speak. People fear what they don’t know or understand.

  49. SargeWP stop internet thuggin and why do all your posts involve lil wayne/gay blowjobs…kinda makin me uncomfortable dude

  50. Most people didn’t know who he was until everygirl and best i ever had.

i knew him from degrassi as jimmy

  51. and yes it IS manufactered like motherfucking Britney spears

  52. I love how people always try to sit there and say “50 did not outsell Kanye in the U.S. where it actually mattered”

NEWSFLASH: ALL SALES FROM EVERY COUNTRY COUNT. THE SALES MATTER TO THE LABEL, AND JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT WANT 50 TO WIN DOESNT MEAN SALES FROM ELSEWHERE DONT COUNT.

Anyway, 50’s right. Hate it or love it, he’s completely right, someone is pushing Drakes music onto the radio cus they think its gonna get him to sign.

And yes, Drake IS manufactured because even if you people did hear him before hand, Lil Wayne is what put him on, not his mixtapes on the internet before that. And then I look and everyones saying “50 CENT STOP HATING” Can anyone actually tell me at exactly what point in the video he’s hating on Drake?

He says “its different” then he goes on about how his buzz and Drakes buzz arent the same that they went different paths and someone is pushing him. He NEVER said in the video that Drake was whack (even tho he is).

  53. ^^^
Exactly he actually said he liked drake in the jot 97 interview he did with flex

  54. 1. Point

50 is hating because he is guessing that Drakes buzz is manufactured without even knowing where the buzz came from.

Instead of saying ‘he’s buzz is strong’ or ‘his music is good’ why comment on what you don’t know (rhetorical)? He choose to assumed the worse before assume the best. He looked for the negative even when all directions point that Drake’s buzz is authentic. He found a way to discredit the kids popularity without any facts or anything. He basically accused and discredited the kids music and popularity. No current facts, no facts prior Lil’ Wayne, no complements just conspiracies. It defintely ain’t showing love.

  55. @ showman3000 my remarks were directed toward sargeWP and in agreement with you completely.

and i again ditto ur above comment! 50 spoke on this shit w/o knowin the history of Drake and assumin he just popped out of nowhere, his mixtapes ARE what got him his buzz, hate it or love it :) Just cuz yall are late on shit and commercial on your music doesnt mean the radio or fuckin lame ass 50 Cent is whats true. How does an “unknown” from Toronto even grab the attention of Wayne and others without havin a buzz? your argument on that is that what? wayne heard one song and was like oh shit let me go suck this dudes dick and put him everywhere?? nahhhh wayne (and others) heard the buzz on Drake that was comin from UNDERGROUND via his mixtapes and decided to check the kid out.
How bout yall hop off 50’s dick???

  56. is it me, or does it seem like everyone who sides with 50 is some ignorant ass dude, and everyone who likes drake is somewhat intelligible?

  57. ^^
    Wow. Eyeopener!

  58. Dreak is refresh’n and lyrics are honest he is a versatile emcee. I’ve been ready for something new, so bad that I wanted to make a mix tape. 50 sold cd’s from his car pushing himself.. he may sound like he is offended by the comparison that comes from the fact that 50 pushed his music because it was his blood and only type of currency need I say a different time, Drake has money behind him. for the record it’s the Fu#king best song that comes on in the club and changes the whole mood. The way 50 came into the game and capitalized WAS UNPRECEDENTED. I’m ready Drake is for the future this is life happening.. 50 lyrical content and delivery is lame DRE MAKING THE BEATS FOR THE CLUB COME ON YOU CAN NOT FAIL.. I will make sure I stay positive and continue to support new artist it’s time entertain us.. make us dance an sing..

  59. make sure you check my show on Youtube.com search for isisnfriends

  60. no body can face 50 cent man so why don’t people stop hitting on him the boy is good with every thing he do man and if i was a rapper i would go to G-unit if it ain’t G-unit it ain’t better. many man.
