Getting more music from a dope rapper is never lame to me.

  8. ^ i disagree. because a lot of people have just caught onto quest as an emcee and the tape looks like it will put everyone on to some old stuff of his while we wait for Broken headphones.

  9. @roasted exactly…as long as dude keeps doing his thing I wouldn’t mind a mixtape every month as long as its dope content

  10. Roasted said it simpler haha

  14. Smh. Broken headphones is his official release. This track is on his promo tape which merely HYPES up his album broken headphones that drops on july 28th. The promo tape drops june 28th. And this shit is fire!!!!!!

  15. yeah, quest is definitely becomin one of my favorites quick. haven’t heard a sub par verse yet. voice and delivery is mad different. thanks for pushin dude so much.

  16. Yeah. I spoke with Quest about this a few weeks ago.

Though it’s going to be a free release (Yo Quest, remember what I said? I still think you should ship tangibles as well…or at least have them available for people that want them), it’s still like his official DEBUT album.

I think that rappers dropping free albums will be a new, dope trend this year. I think it’s the best thing for an unsigned, up and coming artist to do that, while still allowing people the option to purchase it if they want. It exposes your music out to more people and calling it an album still makes it a step above mixtape status.

  17. as cool as that idea sounds Young Son you don’t realize the amount of money that goes into shipping out and creating a product ESPECIALLY when you’re a new artist that has NO label.

  18. I actually do. I did it in 2007 and I’m about to do it again this year from my new album.

There are plenty of packaging places available. You have to invest money to make money.

Usually, you can at least surface back to what you paid for the manufacturing.

My packaging expenses came to about $450. I moved 500 copies and the profit was well over $2500. I broke even in three weeks.

    It’s very worth it.

But see, with the free album thing, you don’t even have to print as many, because not as many would be buying the tangible copy. You’d only need em’ for shows and what not. With a simple PayPal account and some actual ambition to do something to help excel your career, it should work out great.

  19. Awwwww shit, shake’s startin up a website for his design work.
I’ve always approved of your ish man. Good on ya mate.

  20. Yeah, Shake’s art is pretty dope.

I declare a friendly album cover art battle between Shake and Mike Waxx of Illroots!

    LOL

  26. hey shake you got a tracklist yet??

  27. a free album? a gloryfied mixtape if im not mistaken, which is what one of the dopeboyz called hamiltons album,
what?, broken headphones IS a free album just because yall fuck with him?
you see this is why bloggers wont become journalists, your supposed to be objective, have no allegiences, not like a dude cos your in tight with him

  28. Whatever happened to XV’s mixtape wasn’t is supposed to come out back in March???

  29. @me
your a dumb motherfucker. i feel like we go over this all the time. this is shake and meka’s blog, they don’t have to be objective worth shit. simple as that. and why the fuck would they want to become a journalist? smh….

  30. blogging > “journalism”

like i’m gonna pay people to lie to me..and btw no one is ever completely “objective” but if you don’t lik

  31. *like it you can always hit the x button in the right hand corner

  32. Kansas boys are gettin’ out there. Good job XV and Quest is cold!

  33. Welcome To The Slaughter, what are you even talking about?

It’s a free album because Quest says it’s a free album.

Now, I’m not sure if Quest’s project matches up to this criteria, but here’s my opinion in a nutshell of what a “free album” is:

Basically, an album that you COULD sell, with all original beats and the format of an album, so no DJ drops and other things we’d usually here on a mixtape.

The only difference is the person is just putting it out for free instead of a mixtape.

CH’s project was a free ALBUM, contrary to the opinions of the admin here at 2DopeBoyz. That was just someone’s opinionated view of the situation…and plus it was CH, so you can kinda say whatever you want regarding his music…lol

But yeah, there is a difference between a mixtape and a free album…

But it’s starting to feel like people don’t even respect a “free” album. It’s like if it’s a free album, people will complain that it’s really just a glorified mixtape, and then if a lesser known artist attempts to sell his product, people will complain and say “Who does he think he is? I’ve never even heard of this cat . I’m not finna buy his album”

    Sounds like lose lose.

    WHAT MORE DO Y’ALL WANT?!
    It’s free music…lol
    SMH

  34. Not downloading this; waiting for the tape – never heard of this cat until recently but if 2dbz is promoting it I want in: just wanted to say I was feeling the artwork.

  35. @young son,
    i think you mean “me”
not me personally, but “me” up there
Slaughter just asked for a tracklist
