LL Cool J On “The State Of Hip Hop” (Video)

I was lamping with my cousin last weekend, and he explained the difference between grumpy rappers and bitter rappers. James Todd Smith? He’s a bitter rapper apparently. Props to Xilla.

  1. Is your claim that LL is bitter based on the content of this video? I watched the video and LL sounds extremely understated and not bitter at all while he honestly answers a question. It’s true! NY is not in the lead creatively anymore. That’s just the evolution. Doesn’t sound to bitter to me.

  2. even though im not wit the tight jeans lmao (jim jones/NY) changed the whole game…right? but na anyway i think New York is actually back, or very much on the verge of makin a big movement..peoples jus gotta catch uppp..no hate or nothin

  3. NY will never be back in the way that it was in the 80’s obviously. It’s just a different era. I also don’t think NY is leading the way anymore and that is a huge difference that LL nailed right on the head. But I think he recognizes it’s just a change in the climate of hip-hop. NY is still fairly relevant but the glory days for NY are done.

  4. Not bitter at all.

    ?

that’s really weird. why did you say that?

  5. ???

    Maybe YOU’RE bitter, Meka.

  6. I’m just going off of the video. Obviously I think people take other circumstances to come to the conclusion that LL is bitter. But it isn’t evidenced in that 1:16 clip. Someone asked him a question and he gave a cogent answer. Re-watch the clip, he doesn’t even talk about himself. He talks about NY hip-hop and his take on the difference between it when he first started in the early 80’s and today. It seems like there’s a lot of truth to what he’s saying and I for the life of me can’t sense any bitterness in this clip.

  7. Hmmmm I’m confused. I don’t see any bitterness or grumpy response from LL in this vieo.
