Mos Def & The Roots on Jimmy Fallon (Video)

Mos performed Quiet Dog on Letterman last night and tonight he performs Casa Bey w/ The Roots on Jimmy Fallon. The performance can be found after the jump as the above clip features some chit chat. The Ecstatic is in stores now! I’ve gotta get to the store tomorrow and pick my copy up.

  1. Holy shit!! This has got to be one of my favorite Mos Def songs ever. This song is hard as shit to perform vocally and instrumentally. Props to Mos & The Roots for killing it. Shout out to ?uestlove for that transition too. Hip Hop continues to evolve.

  2. that was fuckin ill

Its cuz hes not swagg surfin or crankin it, its hard to keep simple minded folks attention.

  10. I’m loving everything that’s coming from his latest project. Listened to the album yesterday damn near 17 times and will probably go another 17 today.

  11. love it. wouldn’t mind having a mp3 of that. It’s amazing to have the roots backing up all these acts.

  12. holy shit that was dope

  13. The album is incredible. It won’t make him a huge commercial sensation, but 10 years from now, when Ego Trip compiles another book of rap lists, The Ecstatic should rank in the top 5 for ‘09.

  14. He ripped it on Lettermen…..playing the timbales….Jimmy Fallon already has had more hiphop on his show than everbody but Arsenio…..simmmer down…

  15. this performance was incredible from the song, to mos’ performance, to the roots……RESPECT

  16. Don’t get me wrong people, Mos is one of my favorites but I just can’t get down with live hip-hop for whatever reason. Probably because I’m a huge jamband junkie and just see what live music could/can be. Oh, and DocCosmos thanks for talking out of your ass, pal.

  17. @Sasha

You make no sense, and you sound stupid to intelligent people. Shut up.

  18. “How very BORING???-I guess you don’t appreciate REAL hip-hop, DAMN this performance was SiCCC!!! Everything was on point…drums, keys, hell even the trombone guy was gettin’ down! I remember Mos performing this song at the moore theatre in Seattle, DEF one of my fav tracks on the new album

So because live hip hop isnt Jam Band then the show is boring? Thats not a very intelligent opinion to hold. for 1, hip hop isnt jam band music, so of course the live performances arent the same. 2 I’ve been to Jam band shows and hip hop shows and the energy of a hip hop show cant be matched. I dont know who you have seen live, but I suggest you check out meth and red, mos, the roots, lupe fiasco, nas, the list goes on and on and on.
So if you think this is boring because it isn’t a jam band…then go watch a jam band.
But this isnt the same genre. If you knew how hard this was to do..
How stylistically difficult this song was to perform I’d doubt you would say that.

  20. I know it might be hard and everything, but if it doesn’t move me, it just doesn’t move me. Just because something might be complex does not mean everyone will vibe to it. And, I’ve seen live hip-hop (Rock The Bells 07, in Atlanta). Wu-Tang brought the shit, and so did Mos with Kweli. Nas was at the same venue, and I saw Lupe and Chali 2na and Kanye’s PMS moment at Bonnaroo last year as well. I’ve seen countless live shows of every genre but this just didn’t do it for me. No bad on anyones part, just an opinion. BTW, if any of y’all want a real good live hip-hop show check Rahzel or Dalek whenever they come your way.

  21. Oh, and Erykah ripped the shit up at RTB as well.

  22. the only way you could find this “boring’ is if you didn’t understand what you’re listening to. it was probably a little bit too advanced for a person that’s too young to GET IT.
don’t worry, youngling, one day you’ll understand.
just keep on living and DON’T STOP.
    heh.
