Eminem & Royce Da 5′9″ in 1998 (Video)

But a young spring chicken back in 1998, UGHH’s CEO Quest tests the high waters of big things to come as he ventures into the bowels of the since extinct Club Hibernia in the heart of downtown Boston to garner attention for an UndergroundHipHop.com website he was just beginning to develop at the time. Using his 8mm camera, the valiant young entrepreneur captures Eminem 10 years ago in the first video interview ever conducted with the then blossoming vanilla boy wonder. Tagged on to the end of this twelve minute time-capsule, a highly intoxicated Royce Da 5′9″ accompanies Eminem in the basement of Boston’s infamous Middle East nightclub to discuss the origins of Bad Meets Evil, their collaboration for the then newly released Slim Shady LP. Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg reminds Eminem of having met Quest / UGHH before the Slim Shady LP release in another section of the city, to which Eminem (whose ego has exponentially expanded) exclaims, “Before we were dicks. Now we’re BIG DICKS!”

I have to say, I’m still really disappointed to this day that we never got a full out Bad Meets Evil project. And ever if there was a chance we got one now I’d still be disappointed; as it wouldn’t be the same.

  1. If had one wish it would be for Em and Royce to make that album.

  2. yeah that album would be ill
them to are no doub the greatest combo a wish could come by

  3. this is what happens when bad meets evil..sick song no doubt, maybe there’ll be a royce collabo on Relapse 2

  4. i agree shake. Royce & Em 10 years ago >>>>> Royce & Em Now

  5. idk i think royce is alot better now
    em was way better then

hey its my gf my ex gf and my nephews bday

shit sux im wit my girl and i think about what me and my ex girl did on her bday

  6. Wow great material. For some funny reason it was real inspirational to watch. Good vintage shit!

  7. Ummm maybe Em has taken a bit of a fall, but Royce has only gotten better with time. It’s bout safe to say he’s still in his prime.Maybe working with Royce is what he needs to get a lil bit of spark back in him, cuz with Relapse he’s definitely shown that he still got it.

  8. Yea Royce is definitely more beastly now than he was back in the day. While Boom is a certified classic, most of Rock City was average at best. Death is Certain was leaps and bounds better and he only improved from there imo.

Em on the other hand…it’s unfortunate how that turned out.

  9. Damn Eminem was a cornball back then.

  10. why post this..? this has been around for ages….

  12. You can definitely see the changes in Em from then to a year later to now.

  13. can’t believe it’s been over 10 years since their first collab and we still only have about 8 full tracks and a couple of freestyles. and their most recent collab was renegades in ‘02, damn it’s been a while.

  14. whats the track playin in the background at the beginning of the clip??? Shit sounds mad familiar. haha

  15. dope never saw this b4, it’s interesting how things can change

  16. @Jim

“I Dare You” by Black Rob when he was signed to Bad Boy. The 1st single/street single for his album.

  17. Did anyone hear the very last thing said?? I think it was .”This girl wants to fuck..” haha shit

  18. Is it me or does Royce look just like DJ Quik?

it’s crazy to see how EM’s whole image got put together once he got that fame: lost the hat/glasses/weight/dyed his hair…

but he always had the skills to back it up so it didnt really matter.

  19. uhhhh what song did Em do with Marilyn Manson in 98? The Way I Am Remix was in 2000 and theres not way he recorded that in 98

  20. As much as I’m looking forward to 8/11 and Slaughterhouse I still gotta say If I had one wish for 2009, ONE new Bad Meets Evil track (Just ONE!) > Slaughterhouse album. Those two were like a new age EPMD together

  21. EPMD released way too many wack joints to be compared to Royce/Eminem.
