Here’s an upcoming documentary on Rush’s efforts to reform New York’s infamous Rockefeller Drug Laws. While I have no qualms about what he’s doing, I just find it slightly hypocritical that he – a guy who played a role in why rappers feel they gotta rhyme about the same illegal shit these laws are made for because they think it’ll get them to ringtone royalty heaven – is the guy heading the “crusade” against these laws in the first place, but hey, who gives a shit what I think.

I call that “the drug dealer that gives out turkeys on thanksgiving syndrome” Hes destroying the hood but they throw a good face on evry now and then and people give him a pass, even praise him for his efforts. Im not quite sure why you say he’s a hypocrite for trying to reform these laws. How did he play a role in making rappers feel like they have to rap about drugs? He rapped about drugs? He ran a label? And even if he did, then how does trying to reform such ridiculous drug laws make him hypocritical? Maybe Im missing some background here, but can someone explain it to me?

Hey I saw this film in Tribecca and it was dope. I don’t care what Russell’s intentions are all I know is until you watch it don’t judge it. It is a sick film and it shows what a lot of people have to go through with these stupid laws. If hey Russell is going to help get the word out and bring people together to change it, hey he can have all the cocaine and pussy he wants.
Reform is bullshit. And Russel Simmons is not only a hypocrite, but a useless, piece of shit, capitalist. He heads a corporate empire, and you’re not going to tell me that a CEO actually gives a shit about improving the lives of impoverished people (hell, his Phat Farm commodities are produced in sweatshops). The drug laws aren’t the source of the cancer, the social classes and the governments that enforce them in our society are the source. Without social classes or states there would be no prison system, without a prison system there would be no drug laws, and there wouldn’t be any pigs to enforce those same laws either. If I rip a painted canvas off of an easel and put another canvas on, only to paint another picture, won’t I still have a canvas, an easel, and a painting? Of course you will, you’ll simply have a different looking picture. Reform is the same thing, it challenges and attacks nothing; it simply points out a symptom of the disease and then tries to “make it better”, all the while it completely ignores the disease itself. Insurrection is the only answer, as it will lead people to attack the very source of the cancerous growth that makes their lives so miserable. We must burn the painting and the canvas, and shatter the easel. Reforming the system shouldn’t be the goal, destroying it should. The state must be defeated, social classes must be dissolved, capitalists, fascists, and marxists must be thrown aside, and humanity must destroy the very society it has built for itself.
