My sister says the sound is akin to slamming your head into a metal garbage can repeatedly. But leave it to MTV to trend hump a year too late, however.
Hip Hop, Video

wont play
your sister hasn’t listened to any good gogo. it’s not even a trend, it’s a lifestyle. it’ll be in DC forever. from the 70s to year 3000. i’m not coming at anybody, i’m just laying the law!
i live in maryland, too. but my school had the best gogos of all time. i went to sidwell. let’s see who co-signs that statement.
my cousin in upper malboro was part of a gogo band as well. they take it serious. cats be goin hardbody for that. its for who its for. i’m neutral. some is hot some not so. the movie won’t play btw
1 year too late? try 14. lol
i guess i should do some gogo archivin i knew this day would come
Try looking for some mid to late 90’s Backyard Band and Junkyard Band. Then look for some late 80’s early 90’s Rare Essence.
Year Late?….GoGo Been around since 70’s…and NUMEROUS HIP HOP SONGS PRODUCYION HAVE A GO-GO INFLUNECE…Nelly’s “Hot In here” Sampled The Godfather of Go-Go Chuck Brown
A year too late….nah….about 40 years to late. Chuck Brown has been around forever. You can search throughout hip hop and see the influence of go go. PE sampled Trouble Funk, so did Eric B and Rakim, BDP, Salt n Pepa. EU’s “Da Butt” was the lead single for School Daze (I think). Salt n Pepa used the “go-go” influence in there music…as did Kid n Play. Puff has used go-go inspired tracks, The Roots, Jay took Rare Essences (RE) hook for “Overnight Scenario” and used it for his 1999 song “Do It Again”. Pharell is from VA so he and Chad definitely have been influence by go-go even though they were near the VA beaches.
Redman has rocked with RE…so has Doug E Fresh. Shit….Luda had RE on the Tonight Show as his band a couple of years ago.
I’m from Maryland….not the biggest go-go head….but I grew up listening to Junkyard when they were bangin on them buckets, JYB was in Tougher Than Leather or Krush Groove (can’t remember which one) Stinky Dink (who remembers at the Cap Center 88 (I think)).
I could go on and on. Go-go is a DC thing…always has and always will be. A video won’t do you justice….have to attend a show to experience the full affect of the music.
Ok…..enough rambling.
MTV is always late with stuff anyway.
I am from the DMV and I love go-go. You gotta go to a live show to really understand how hot go-go music really is.
Lol.. Your Sister Is Lunchin No Disrespect!

wow. see? i told you.
Yeah, Go-Go is no trend, Go-Go goes synonyms with DMV.
Its just like all those dance songs that come out in the south (dirty booty, stanky leg, ect… don’t even know what the style of music is called), its not for everyone, but it is for us.
Fuck it or fuck with it, Go-Go for life.
Straight go-go, straight DC forever.
