Remember how J Dilla and Kanye were originally supposed to go half on Lonnie’s ‘05 jumpoff? Well, here’s Dilla’s version of Lonnie’s first song off that album, found on DJ Eves’ new mixtape, Laced With Gems. UPDATE: Added NoDJ version, courtesy of OKP.

i still like kanyes better
I like Kanye’s version better as well
I dont understand how this is the original “be”. But its pretty dope.
KanYe over Dilla
yeah kanye’s inro beat is probably my favorite intro ever
blasphemy! DILLA > Kanye forever. DILLA’s better on the mic too. this song is incredibly dope & i need a No DJ version stat!
fuck outta hea…
dilla>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
the beat is bananas! its kinda tooo raw for lonnie even
i bet lonnie sr. could drop pop’s rap VI over this isht tho. have yet to listen to it, but to sac-relig dilla’s name like that is killin me.
dilla >>>>>>>>>> autotune the louie vutton don
yuck. lol. 88 rap? the fuck outta here
Kanye>>>Dilla
Dilla is more legendary than Kanye that don’t mean his version is better so calmate.
This is a dope instrumental. Super Comm Lonnielon is ruining it for me—the yelling is throwing me off.
Either way dope music. No need to make the comparison for me. Why does everything have to be a competition?
Yo… this beat is INSANE!!… But as an Intro Kanye’s was better because it helped set the mood for the whole album… And while were on the topic of this album in my opinion “Go” is the best beat Kanye has ever produced for someone other than himself.. But This beat here is just NUTS, the type of shit that makes an MC go hard, and common did, But it doesnt work as an intro for THIS album because the whole vibe of the album is completely different from Dilla’s version of this song… Still this should have been a bonus joint on the album cuz its extremely dope…
[...] the version that actually ended up on the album is better! What do ya’ll think? Shouts to 2dopeboyz for [...]

all im going to say is, if you’ve seen common in concert, that “Be” bass line is so ill. get’s the whole show started off right.
Yeezy version all day. Still dope.
RANDOM BUT WHY IS SANAA LATHAN ALWAYS MENTIONED IN RAPS, WAS IT A MOVIE I MISSED OUT WHERE SHE SHOWS A LIL SUM SUM THANG ??!?!! SKOOL ME YALL
The yay version is a doper intro
they shoulda used this as an outro
version, version.,….Dilla’s a MONSTER! these ppl saying ‘Ye’s version better…not really. this shit brings me back to 93-94. THATS what we need. THIS feeling….fuck kan-gay.
DILA>>>>>>>>>EVERYBODY (except Nottz…BEAST!)
yeah man.. this shit iz HARD
I’m hearing Oddisee’s voice, he got some exclusives on there?
Im glad he didnt release this version…
=0(
that beat isnt hot at all..
but because its J Dilla EVERYONE will say this is the greatest beat ever!!
Miker191….Dilla is better on then Kanye on the mic????…lmao…are you for real?
or was that your version of sarcasm?
song for song? this jawn kills kanye’s version BUT as an intro, ye’s version works better. This should have been on the album somewhere though cuz this is bananas.
i dont understand the original part…its not not like he used the same rhymes
Cannon stop being a stan!!!
you used the word “bananas” to describe that beat…that beat is a dilla throwaway and decent at best..lol…u see why it wasnt used on a MAJOR label album?
A beat with hot drums doesnt mean it will translate into a GOOD RECORD
if Meka woulda posted this instrumental up and said Producer “JOE BLOW” made it….noone woulda comented on it.
beat for beat this def kills the other joint… but as far as fitting the album, no question the other works better. That shit sounds like straight horns and then he reveals its high vocal notes… fuckin ridiculous
Raw-Crazy-dope. Wow.
Its a whole other song in my opinion- but its so damn nice.
R.I.P DILLA!!!!
