I didn’t know Dilla was the one behind Pharcyde & Tribe, I first listen to him when he came out with Slum.
dilla was behind a lot of people. it’s crazy cause people were listening to him and loving his music yet never knowing who he was.
I got down wit Dilla when he did all the Pharcyde stuff cause I had the labcabincalifornia advance back when the internet didnt exist lol adn tribe stuff. I remember when cats were hating on Tribe once Dilla joined them on that ummah shit for beats rhymes and life, but that sound wit the warm ass basslines fit them just as good as the sample stuff did.
First time I heard Slum when they played that shit on the wakeup show, i didnt know wtf it was but being the big tribe fan i was, i jumped on them (pause)from the get-go. Never could find that fantastic record tho and really wasnt fuckin wit dilla since then. by the time I heard Jaylib, i was out of the loop as far as underground hip hop and couldnt get with it, Donuts brought me back to the light tho lol…
sidenote: I actually met dilla before when i worked at workmens on melrose, he bought some custom kicks we were sellin from triumvir, and actually was sposed to come back to grab em but never did obviously…
