Cloverfield (Trailer)

Off to see Cloverfield. Anyone seen this? I was doubtful when I saw this wacked out drawing of the balooga whale looking monster that takes over NY, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. I just put up DeMarco’s review over at HipHopDX and he gave it a solid 4/5 so we’ll see…

EDIT: Just got back, dope film! Felt a bit nauseated after with the whole 1st person ordeal haha. But regardless, 2008 has been a good movie going year so far. First Juno (I highly recommend) now this? Very creative and intriguing way to do this. Definitely gets Shake’s “Stamp of Approval”.

  1. seen it on opening day
    off the hook
best thing about it is, its 1st person
so just imagine call of duty 4
    its kinda like that

  2. GREAT MOVIE! Its a great start to 08…i feel you on feeling nauseated but good all in all

  3. I cannot beleive all of the positive reviews of this film. I honestly think it was one of the worst movies I have ever paid money to see. Granted, the first person gimmick was kind of cool. But that is ALL it was: a gimmick. The acting was terrible, the mov ie was filled with inconsistencies, and the romantic elements were over-the-top. There were 5 people who walked out of the theatre while we were in it, and I stongly considered doing the same.

    this shit was pure wackness.

  4. actually
they walked out cuz they were feeling sck

  5. i haven’t seen this movie but i’ve heard that it isn’t worth $10 to go see. yeah that camera thins seems kinda cool i might go see it but i highly don’t think so from what i’ve heard.

  6. I thought it was a pretty good movie but nothing amazing. I didn’t feel ripped off of my 10 bucks but I wouldn’t advise someone to see it over…say, Juno or There Will Be Blood if they haven’t already.

But I’m not gonna lie, I thought this movie was gonna be Blair Witch X Doo-Doo ^ Weaksauce. So it’s got that going for it.

  7. juno is the killer of the year so far. such a great film!

  8. actually
they walked out about an hour into it, so it wasn’t the camera work at all. One of the walkers was a dude who we went with. And all of our crew agreed that he made the good move in leaving.

  9. what people dont seem realize (atleast the ones who hate this movie) is that the point of the handy cam style video is to act as YOUR eyes. like you (the viewer) are along for the ride. so you know exactly what YOU should know (aka nothing). none of people in the film knew what it was, that’s why you don’t. that’s what makes this movie smart imo. the fact that they do that. they leave you in the same exact boat as the people in the film.

this also goes for the unpolished dialogue. these people aren’t supposed to be actors, they are regular people with a video camera. yep yep.

  10. I was just about to come in here schooling ppl on why Cloverfield was a dope-ass film– The dialogue was perfect, the acting wasnt “acting” it was just being.. as for the inconsistencies– Youre seeing a tape that some dude had recorded for his friends going away party, OVER TOP of a pre-existed recording.
The film was straight up clever and original, and excellently executed.

Ps. Shake you forgot to add Sweeney Todd to 2008’s “Film goings”

  11. it was cool. it just wasnt what people were expecting it to be thats why they think its wack. but the movie was OK. nothing too hot, but it was just OK. nothing to buy on dvd.might watch it on tv or sumthing.
