1. yo meka- i just got the complete OKeh records collection from 49-57, in which the second version (the popular one, not the one he put out to little acclaim some years earlier) has jay doing an extra 45 seconds or so of insane “moo-ha-ha” voodoo ramblings. it is said that he and his band got completely trashed on italian-swiss wine that the manager (?) gave them when they recorded it, hence the insanity. regardless, it is a classic record and possibly the best rhythm and blues record ever recorded. screamin jay hawkins huh? i didnt know you got down with classic r&b!
